Transcripts before Applications

If I send in my transcript before I submit my application will the college just hold the transcript until the Application comes in? Or should I send transcripts after the application?

It would be ok. I think colleges open a file for every applicant as soon as any piece of your file gets there.

Happens all the time. Doesn't matter what order schools receive the information.

It doesn't matter... however, it is easier for the college to process if the application is received first. Instead of the transcripts sitting in a holding pattern and waiting for an application and then waiting to be matched up, it can immediately be processed if the student has already submitted an application. I would recommend applying first if possible. It should be fine either way (just taking longer if applying second), but why not apply first and make it easier and less time-consuming for them... your payoff will be that it will be processed faster with less likelihood for delays and errors.

Because you cannot control when your GC sends your transcript. And often, high schools have specific timetables and procedures. At d's school, for example, students were required to request their transcripts at least 6 weeks before the application deadline. There aren't many students who have their applications ready to go that early, and the GC could send them off the day after they're requested.

:) And that is fine, but IF you have a choice, I would apply first.

I called a bunch of colleges today and was told that the transcript starts the application file. But thanks for the help everyone!

Most schools will say they start a file for any credential, but honestly, it will sit in miscellaneous credential files (see the second picture here) until a formal application is submitted and the fee is paid.

Looking that the miscellaneous credentials files towards the end of the application season, you can see why we don't start a new application file for every item that arrives before an application is submitted.
