Transcript's Community Service Hours Not Matching w/ Reported Hours?

I have completed thousands of community service hours over the years but didn’t file most of the forms into my high school’s registrar. She recently closed the file and no longer accepts any new community service files for the transcript. On the transcript, I have only a few hundred hours. Yet, on my Common App, I have thousands. How will colleges look at this?

They won’t care. They don’t look to verify anyway.

Really? But wouldn’t there be a clear mismatch when the transcript says 500 something hours, but my Common App adds up to 1000’s of hours?

This might be something to put in the additional info section.

I repeat: They won’t care. They don’t look to verify anyway.

Most school transcripts don’t list vol hours. So yours has a discrepancy. As a reader, I would simply assume that you logged hours outside of the school’s tracking system and wouldn’t give it a 2nd thought. Plus #hours is not very important AT ALL to colleges. That’s a closely held HS myth.

My friend and fellow interviewer for my college is a judge. He says “I SENTENCE people to volunteer hours”. Vol hours aren’t a big deal per se. If your voluntarism led to interesting results, comment on them. 500 vs 800 vs 2000 hours? Colleges say “meh”
