hey guys,
my school asked me to tell them the format of the transcript.
in the grading scale column, our school grades like this (READ SCALE A):
A-80+
B- 40-80
c- below 40.
should i ask them to change the grading scale? i have seen grading scales like (LETS CALL IT SCALE B)
A+ 96-100
A 91-95
A- 86-90
B+ 81-85...and so on till F= 0-55/ 0-40
so shud i ask them to change to the above grading scale?
or should i ask them to change into the following scale (SCALE C)?
A=91-100
B=81-90
C=71-80
D=61-70
E=51-60
F= fail etc...?
please reply asap! should i ask them to let it be Scale A or shud i ask em to change into SCALE B OR C??

P.S i wanted to change the grading scale because of the large gap and that it would show the school as a not so competitive one? erm… like the student getting a 81 VS 99? both with get the same ‘A’ in our schools report card and the difference won’t be highlighted!
P.P.S our schools grading is steep! not everyone can get a 80+ or 90+ either.

Just send it out of 100 only dont covert to grades because it portrays a clearer picture…

Most college admission officers do know enough about the Indian system of education, so you don’t have to explain it I think.

Agree strongly with pratyush!

so u suggest that i send in the original grading scale (scale a)?

Hey rew,its been really long time man…anyway why dont you send just the marks if you have them?..i’m doing so…80-100 ‘A’ grade is pretty lame…

send the marks.
Or if you absolutely have to/want to change it to grades.
Use scale c.

no no no use scale ‘b’ if you must…its way better…anyways whatever you choose,do mention what the grades stand for otherwise it becomes meaningless

Don’t OMIT the marks, whether you send the grades or not. And send grades if your school follows the grading system. If it doesn’t, then it’s up to you whether or not to send the grades. If you want to send grades (haha so many ‘if loops’) choose whatever scale you think reflects better on your performance and highlights you as being near the top of your class.

yes @akashdip. long time huh? where had u been?

and guys? my schools gives both grades and marks on the report.
the primary reason for me NOT to send the report card is because a transcript has ALL scores/grades on one single page, and i read on the univs website that they prefer one single sheet of scores than 4 different ones.

also, the scales wont hurt my scores in any way.
so, final call! which scale should i ask the school to use? ?(and from the above comments i am 100% NOT to use scale A for it has huge gap of 20 marks!)…
please please PLEASE? FINAL call?
B OR C?

If marks are all tops,very close to cent percent,then definitely ‘b’…otherwise ‘c’ would be a safer bet…& why worry about the grading system if you’re providing the marks?
