Priyanka: I read your threads here as well as in Parents Cafe. I think you should consider the advice of many to go after lower tier school. The SAT and Gr 9 and 10 grades are not that hot.

Yes you have made lots of improvement in Gr 12. Have you considered staying in India for a year then applying? Your full year grades will be available and you can clearly demonstrate that you have turned the corner. You will have more credible story to tell why your grades were low in those two years. You will have more time to prepare for SAT and SAT IIs - your score could improve. Right now ‘Time’ is not on your side.

Michigan, UIUC and even Purdue might be waste of application fees. Some of the lower tier state schools with decent Engineering programs I might suggest would be Texas A&M (forget UT and Rice), UT-Dallas, UT-Arlington. Another good one might be LSU in Baton Rouge, Lousiana (they are hungry for internationals). The advantage of UT - Dallas or UT - Arlington (or any college in the UT system) is that you can transfer to flagship UT-Austin (excellent EE dept.) if your grades are excellent. Many domestic students do that.
