Transcripts not sent

Good morning, all. We had an interesting thing happen recently and I thought I might mention it in case it happens to others. My son applied to 2 schools over the summer and requested that transcripts be sent via Naviance. We assumed that
.the transcripts wouldn’t be sent until after school was back in session. About 10 days in to the new semester, I checked Naviance under transcripts and it said pending. After 2 weeks it still said pending. I shot an email to the counselor and she said they were still verifying the information for the new sr class and transcripts would start being mailed the following week. About 10 days later, Naviance said “sent” under transcripts.

Fast forward 3 weeks. We still had not heard a thing from either university so my son called admissions. As a side note, both schools are state schools and both are considered safe schools based on his stats. Neither school had received the transcripts. I shot an email to the counselor at his high school and asked about it. The counselor confirmed that they had been sent out and offered to resend them. An hour later, an admissions counselor from 1 called to confirm receipt of his transcripts. Within a week, both schools had sent emails welcoming him to their schools.

The point of all this is a reminder that just because a counselor says transcripts were sent, and just because Naviance confirms they were sent, and just because I’m trying so hard to not be an obsessive mom, sometimes it really is a good thing to double and triple check that all the gears are turning.

Breathe…

Everything has worked out

Agree - A big part of the lag sometimes has to do with the university. They need time to process the transcripts. Think of the volume they get. I am more likely to believe that the HS did send it but you need to allow time for the university to match it to the students file and update their records.

Congrats to you student. It’s always a great feeling to have their first acceptances.

There is often a lag between when the documents are sent and when they are logged in by the college. This is not unusual. I do agree that after enough time passes, a phone call is in order.

@sybbie719 can you please remind me every day until about this time next year?

My nephew went to a public specialty (arts-focused) high school in a large city. He had his applications in by the schools’ deadlines. In March or April, he learned that the colleges hadn’t received his transcripts. They hadn’t been sent.

Most universities have online tracking, but the responsibility completely in the hands of the applicant. Sometimes the university is where things fail, not the school.

I honestly believe there was a glitch in the system and the high school honestly believed they had been sent. However, neither school had any record of transcripts, only the applications. When they were resent, our son received email confirmation from both universities within 24 hours. In the end, problem solved.
