Transcripts, Pre-Reqs and Pass/Fail

I'm a sophomore looking to apply to Summer Analyst positions this summer, and I have a major question about how, exactly, banks look at "recommended prereq" Economics courses on transcripts, both now at the Summer Analyst level and the actual hiring level. Would taking an Economics course Pass/Fail be a red flag?

I'm enrolled in a multivariate-calculus-based Microeconomics course that I honestly was underprepared for academically, and after realizing how important it is to shoot for a high GPA, I've come to the conclusion that I need to either drop or Pass/Fail the course. Pass/Fail-ing is more satisfying in that I've taken 9 out of 12 weeks of the course so far and would still be able to have it on my transcript, most likely with a "Pass" grade, but if I drop the course outright, it won't appear on my transcript -- so there won't be any indication that I struggled in Microeconomics.

So how do banks generally approach transcripts: would they place enough value on a certain course appearing on the transcript to balance the fact that the course is Pass/Fail? Or would it be a better bet to drop a course rather than Pass/Fail it?

Thanks so much for any advice. The Pass/Fail and drop deadline is actually tomorrow, and literally any thoughts would be hugely appreciated!

No one really looks at your transcript other than to verify your gpa and coursework taken is accurate. Do whatever you can to manipulate your gpa, so long as it doesn’t involve lying or irrational “rounding”.
