transcripts?

I know this has been discussed before, but I really wanted a clearer idea.
Is it mandatory to send in the highschool transcripts?

I've taken my GCE O/A levels, and my predicted A2 (a.ka. AL) results come out in November. All these scores are quite good (A levels too, hopefully). But my High school transcript is QUITE diverse.... with A's, B's, a few C's, but somehow, very good teachers' comments.

I'll be applying to Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Uchicago, Colgate etc etc......
so do these schools need my HS transcripts, if I just send in my O and A level certificates?

what do you mean by high school transcripts?

if you took the O and A levels, you probably shouldnt have any transcripts similar to the american one. you can send in your O and A level certs (be sure to include the back of the cert because thats where the grade system is explained)

Well, I don't have anything similar to the American ones, but I do have a semester-to-semester report card that shows my marks and all...and I don't want to send that in. So I'm thinking maybe I could avoid doing so?

You should ask your career guidance counselor for that. In my case, I didn't have to submit all transcripts. (My school is a REALLY difficult school so that it's VERY common to have Es and Fs) The transcript was substituted with my High School Profile instead. All the unis that I applied to are fine with it - except Berkeley that specifically asks you to fill in your grades in order to submit your online application.

dont think you have to send in that. im kinda sure most american universities know about the british system, so sending in your O and A level certs should be fine.

Thanks guys!! lisieux, when you say that you didn't have to send in all your transcripts, which ones did you send in then?

I sent in my end-of-year at Secondary 4 (that's equivalent of Year 10 - we were exempted from taking the O-Levels), and my preliminary results at the end of Year 12, before the real A-Level result is out (on March).

So in your case, I guess you just send in your O Level and A Level result? Again, check with your career guidance counselor. Anyway the schools vary from one to another, check what do they require from you. Good luck! :)

Just one more thing- is calling up the colleges (or asking them at an info session during a campus visit) and asking this same question a good idea?

Thank you very much! you've been a great help!

Hmmm I see your problem, you're afraid that if you ask, they'll say, "Please just send them in!" right? Hahaha. But calling them up is kinda anonymous anyway. So yeah you can just call and ask. AND THEN ask your career guidance counselor also, regarding what they usually do.

In my case, my home room tutor is the career guidance counselor for US universities in particular. So when I insisted, "But but but.. they say we have to send high school transcript!" She said, "Don't worry, usually end-of-year grades and High School Profile will suffice." So that's what I did. Anyway if they need more materials they'll contact you and ask you for it.

Bottom line: ask your career guidance counselor then. Haha. :)

yea, they usually wont process your application until they get everything they need. if youre missing something, they'll contact you usually via email to send the missing ones over.

but dont worry, i dont think they absolutely want transcripts from students who are under the british education system. i've never heard of that. pretty sure they will accept your O and A level certs.

i think some universities require you to send in mid year results, and if im not mistaken, columbia wants track record from 9th grade up till 12th. Correct me if im wrong =)

Is that mid-year for Senior year only? cuz I'll have to sort of send it in anyway... my A2 predicted results are going to be based on them...
