Is it bad to be technical in your transfer essay? Ex: engineer talks about complex engineering stuff. It is still understandable if read by an average person.

I can see both arguments being valid. Some one on here said to try your best to mirror the language of the person reading it, which I think is great advice. With that said if the engineering department is evaluating your personal statements then the technical jargon should not be difficult for them to understand. However, on the other side since you don’t know who exactly will be reading your essays even within the engineering dept.(could be an EE who doesn’t know much about CS for example) it may be in your best interest to write as if the average person were reading it.
