Transfer 2014

Does anyone here apply for transfer admission next Fall 2014 at Amherst? I am currently a community college student.

I am. Not from a community college, but with 75% commuting, might as well be. I’ll guess that coming from a CC is an advantage for transfers because 60% of transfer students were from CC at Amherst (Not sure if it’s because a disproportionately large number of CC students apply, but seeing how elite Amherst is and its cross-admit competition for accepted freshmen, I’d guess there’s just as much university/college students applying as there are CC students applying. I wonder how many are from ivies).

Hi, I’m a transfer applicant from Toronto. My campus is super urban and has tons of Toronto locals that commute (including myself haha). How’s it going?

I’m a community college student applying for transfer admission! The wait is almost too much to bear :p

Dang. Replies in one-month intervals. Must be a small pool (hopefully lol).

I was looking at the transfer thread for a previous year and it was jam packed with transfer applicants, so maybe you’re right. But then again, it’s possible traffic’s gonna pick up in April.

Yeah, or probably some lurkers who won’t post unless they’ve been accepted

They want all application materials in by the end of this month. I’m still hoping they’ll get back to transfer applicants earlier than mid May…

anyone hears from Amherst yet?

nope. when we all got that email saying we got in that was intended for international students, i called and asked what was up and they said we’d know around may 10th.

“We” as in all applicants?

all or some transfer applicants got a weird letter saying that we got in. but it was followed up with a letter from admissions apologizing, they said that it was intended for international students only

Anyone herd from Amherst yet? Accepted or Rejected? I cannot wait to hear back!! @-)

If it matters, I didn’t get the “you got in” email, but I’m a Canadian applicant

it was for international freshman applicants. they sent it in march, it had nothing to do with transfers, it was only a computer glitch. i only brought it up because when i asked them about it, they told me that we would hear around may 10th.

Just called Admissions, and they said we won’t hear back until “mid-May.” We’ll get an email saying to check our status online, and that’s where we’ll see the decision. Good luck to all!

Wow. Not even a specific date?

Dear CeaselessPain:
:
I am happy to inform you that the Admission Committee has decided to save a place for you at Amherst College starting in the fall semester of 2014. The Admission Committee was impressed by your application and the quality of your accomplishments thus far as a college student. Congratulations!

An evaluation of your credits by our Registrar, Kathleen Kilventon, and an estimate of your class standing are enclosed in a mailing you will be receiving shortly. Please be sure we have full transcripts, including final records of any work currently in progress. Should you have further questions regarding either credit or class standing, please contact Ms. Kilventon directly. As you know, whatever the amount of Amherst credit awarded, you must spend at least two years as a matriculated student in order to obtain an Amherst degree.

If you are a candidate for financial aid, you will soon receive both a letter and email from our Office of Financial Aid. If you haven’t heard the specifics of your aid situation and you need to know due to a response deadline from another college, feel free to call our office.

In addition to this electronic letter, you will also receive an official notification of your admission in the mail, along with a copy of our Admission Response Form and a reply envelope. You may also print the Admission Response Form at: https://www.amherst.edu/admission/applicants/trfall2014</a>. [Note: If the above link does not work for you, please cut and paste the above URL address into your browser.] Please confirm your decision regarding this offer of admission by carefully reading, completing and returning the required Admission Response Form by May 22, 2014. We expect, of course, that you will not make a deposit at any other college or university. Please note that your acceptance to Amherst College is contingent upon maintaining your current level of academic performance, successfully completing your academic program and continuing as a citizen in good standing in your present school and community. The College reserves the right to revoke the offer of admission if these conditions are not met to our satisfaction. Should you decide not to attend Amherst, we ask that you complete and return the Admission Response Form accordingly, so that we may plan appropriately.

Shortly after we hear that you are accepting our offer of admission, the Office of Student Affairs will contact you regarding housing and details for our orientation program. I hope to welcome you to campus in August. Congratulations again on your admission to Amherst!

Sincerely,
Katie L. Fretwell
Dean of Admission
