Transfer ... A Few Questions

Hi,

I’m a transfer applicant, coming from up the street (BU). I’ve posted a chances thread in the main transfer forum in the past, but wanted to meet a few live BC transfer students. I know transfer admission is brutal - here are my vitals, and a few of questions I had…

HS: Private, Catholic
-GPA - 3.2 (top half of class only, if I recall. 6 APs, though, all 5s or 4s)
-SAT: 1330/2050 … 770CR 560M 720W (English major right here)
-Good ECs, leadership positions

BU:
-GPA - 3.6
-Some more ECs and community service
-Good recs, professor is a BC alum

Three questions:

The obvious, I suppose - what are my chances? Feel free to PM me if you want to on this point.

Any transfers here - what were your stats/where did you transfer from?

Finally, what is the best approach to the essay? Should I go for what I love about BC over BU, or explain what I hope to do at BC (go to BC Law, eventually) - any tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

(1) I think you have a very good chance.
(2) I transferred Fall '07 with a 3.9 a small private liberal arts college. HS: around a 95, I think (I'm starting to forget - how horrible!) And I had a 28 ACT.
(3) I think an essay on what you love about BC over BU sounds great. As long as your essay is in a positive light and not "BU was horrible at this ___." I'm not sure if I would focus on BC law because you could still finish your undergrad at BU & go to BC Law. I might focus on why BC better fits your undergrad needs.

Let me know if you have any questions! I love BC so much, and I know many people who transferred from BU who are very happy here.

Transfer admissions ARE really really selective, so I would DEFINITELY focus a lot on what you LOVE about BC and how that contrasts with BU. The transfer admissions committee DEFINITELY read everything really really closely -- when I went to orientation and spoke to them they remembered specifics from my essay and app -- so it really is important.

I just started at BC, but I absolutely love it. I transferred Spring '08 with a 3.8/3.9 from a private LAC.

I'm applying to BC as a transfer as well from American University.

My stats are pretty similar to yours (3.4 HS, 3.94 college, 2110 SAT).

For my essay (I applied to several schools, so I couldn't be too BC specific) I just talked about how my goals are incompatible with AU and how transferring to a different school would better meet my needs. My writing tends to be really dry (and I'm totally not in person!) so I worked really hard to make my essay come off as conversational.

Since I haven't finished my app yet, I'm not sure this is of any use to you, but it's great to talk with other transfer students. Best of luck to you...hopefully I'll be seeing you around campus in the fall.

oh, and just as a side note, I'd avoid talking too much about BC Law...while it is a great law school, BU Law is ranked a bit higher than BC Law, so it wouldn't really make a ton of sense to talk about going to BC for undergrad so that you can go to law school if BU is the "better" law school.
