So, we are allowed to update the additional comments. Does this mean, the UC's didn't read our additional comments that we put in November yet? Cause I might revise or remove the one I put in November altogether if that's the case.

If by looked you mean seriously evaluated your application then no they have not. From an efficiency point of view it makes no sense to go over an application before the fall grades and spring coursework is listed.

A lot of people treat additional comments like another essay. IDK if you did that or not but I’ll say it anyways, it’s meant for information related to coursework.

It’s just regarding a course I got a W in. The reason I put for the W actually sounded like I was making it seem like a big deal. So, they didn’t read the additional comments at all yet? Cause I also forgot to explain why I got a C in one of my classes (in 2012 summer), or do you thinking explaining a C would make a C seem worse than it actually is?

But, the reason why I want to explain that C is because I didn’t even need to take that class that I got a C in in the first place (Calc 1). I only took it incase I didn’t get a 4 on my AP Calc (a 4/5 is needed to move up to calc 2 at our community college), and I also took it to review for Calc 2 I guess. I found out during the summer when I received my scores, that I did get a 4 on the AP test. So, as you can see, this is very disappointing (I could’ve had a 3.65 GPA instead of a 3.47 – my current GPA)

Do you think I should tell them that?^

I wouldn’t tell them that. It doesn’t make you look any better IMO.

For the W: unless it’s a prerequisite or an otherwise important class, I’d say it’s not even worth mentioning it.

For the C: in my opinion, it would needlessly draw attention to the particular grade.

If your GPA were, say, 3.0-3.1, it may have been something to think about.

@bomerr, alright

@derse4444, the W is a prereq (first sem physics with calculus), but let me explain: I can either take the chem sequence or the physics sequence (first and second sem physics with calculus) for my major. So, decided to take chem seqeunce. I also dropped the physics because it was taking up all my time, and I had to catch up with my other classes.

Should I erase what I put in November for additional comments? I put that I decided to take the chem sequence instead of physics, and I went on about how I was going to take chem sequence because I only had fall and spring left to take them, and that if I took physics instead, I should just aim for all 3 physics (but that wouldn’t fit into: by end of Spring)

But this question still remains: Have the UC’s already read the additional comments sections at all? because if they have, then I can’t erase what I put down in November

“Decided to take the chem sequence” as in you’re already done or it’s still in progress? If it’s already done, definitely don’t mention the W; otherwise, it’ll still probably be clear, but I suppose you can state your intent if you want.

My 2 cents. I don’t think telling them you dropped a class because it was taking up all your time is a good idea. I’ve seen candidates on here who have taken very hard course loads.

ex. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1594503-chance-me-ucla.html

Mentioning the “W” is useless since you decided on the Chemistry sequence.

DO NOT DO THIS! It will look very badly on you, IMO. It makes it seem that you can’t accept responsibility for your grades and instead make excuses! There is no excuse, period.

Best of luck.

Thanks for input everyone.
@derse4444, I’ll be done with chem sequence by this Spring; I’m currently taking last chem class right now

So can I erase what I have written down about the dropping the physics for chem sequence?

I’m still confused about if they have read the November additional comments or not. Have they? I need to know before I erase what I already put down in November (I don’t mean to be repetitive or demanding, but no one answered this part of the question yet lol)

I would erase it.

Economically, it makes no sense to look at anything at all yet, so I would use that as a basis for arguing that erasing the comments is fine.

Alright thanks, Yah, I will erase it.

I’m kinda in the same circumstance as bhav007.

I got an F in one of my political science classes because for some odd reason my professor have me an F on an essay so the highest grade I would be able to get was a B. I went ahead n retook the class and got an A this past fall semester. Would it be reasonable to explain that F or should I just erase my additional comment?

^ that sounds bad “I failed a class on purpose because I didn’t want a B.” Plus you should have taken the W. Think of something better to say or delete the comment.

If I took the B I wouldn’t have the high gpa that I do have right now and retook the class n got an A in it.

^ I understand, like I said that kind of stuff is frowned upon.

@capnchr0n1c

I agree with bomerr. That’s not something you should mention in the additional comments.

it’s people like @capnchr0n1c why I think the UC’s should be stricter on grade replacements. You failed a class only to retake it to maintain a high GPA? You’re proud to brag about that?

I agree with @bomerr and @stanx89, a B grade isn’t horrible at all. If you got like a D in the class (not willingly), then I understand why you retook the class, but if you got a F because you didn’t want a B… that makes NO sense to me whatsoever. I’m pretty sure your GPA would’ve still been high if you just took the B.
