transfer admission criteria

-3.9 gpa after 35 credits
-average high school gpa and ACT (focused way too much on athletics during high school)
-work each week and lots of involvement in my CC fraternity, phi theta kappa
-had a few dropped classes but had at least a year straight of 3.9 or higher gpa.
-teacher recommendation letter (teacher went to UMich)
-phi theta kappa letter of recommendation
-played soccer for college currently attending

I plan on applying to the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, University of Chicago, and New York University....possibly one more?? (if accepted to UMich that will be my choice)

What are my chances of acceptance at each of those Universities?? I can't find some of the admission criteria for some of the schools? and what could i do to boost my chances??

thanks for the input in advance :)

SAT scores and list of ec’s?

I think they’re good.

What major are you applying for at UMich?

my high school gpa and ACT was low as i focused way too much on athletics. gpa in high school was a 3.4 and ACT was a 21…i hope they do not care too much about what i did 3 years ago (act taken junior year of h.s.) but what iv’e done lately

my ec’s during college is phi theta kappa member, work every week, and participated in some community service. there are not a lot of opportunites for involvement at my community college but i try to get involved as much as i can.

–my major i would like to go for at UMich will be Economics and Mathematics joint major if possible, or possibly Economics with a minor in mathematics and finance if possible. not exactly sure of the combination yet

did not take SAT

well the university of chicago now has an acceptance rate of about 19 because of a 45 percent increase in applications. they are extremely selective and will definitely look at your act.

Nyu college of arts and science is probably a lock but good luck with financial aid!

and michigan seems possible as well.

good luck. hope you get into umich!

what would you suggest to increase my chances of acceptance at UMich? or UChicago?

i figured MSU to be my safe school, NYU to be my match school, UMich to be in between a match and a reach, and UChicago to be my reach. is that pretty accurate??

yes that seems accurate if you are applying to cas at nyu. stern would be a high reach bc they are around 6% acceptance.

For umich if you really want to go there, i suggest that you spend alot of time on your essays and make them perfect and completely explain why you want to go there.

for chicago, the essays have to be so unique as to why you want to go there and no where else. ive seen people with a 4.0 and 750 760 and 730 on each part of the sat and still get rejected. in 2008 it was 10% acceptance for trnsfers and 2009 was like 16 but they also recieved more apps.

I say focus on michigan if you really wanna go there. chicagos deadline is march 1st so yea you cant really imporve by then.

thank you for the help, i appreciate it :)

one more thing…so there are 2 economics programs at NYU? one in stern and one in CAS?

CAS is theoretical, while Stern is more pre-professional. Also, at Stern you will receive a bachelor of science degree, but at CAS you will receive a bachelor of arts degree.

stern is more business geared and specific. in cas its just economics. thats it. stern has numerous types of majors referring to economics

i also live in michigan, does this increase my chances of acceptance there? i heard this was the case
