Transfer Admission Doubts!

How hard it is to transfer to Hamilton? What r the statistics like(act average score, GPA, etc)? I'm an international student from Brazil who needs full ride and they are need-aware for intl's! What's the social life off campus like(city, night life, etc)? Does Hamilton tend to be more conservative or liberal? Thanks!

anyone???

no idea what stats are like for transfers, i’d check the admissions website and if it is not listed there i’m sure you could email them and learn that way.

there isn’t too much of a social life off campus. hamilton is in clinton, ny pop. 2000(ish). its 4 hours from new york city and boston. if you are looking for an urban campus, hamilton is the exact opposite. that being said, i came to hamilton from a big city, and the ability to spend a few years in an area completely different from my hometown was a draw. off campus there are 2 bars in town (vt and the rok), and hamilton offers shuttle service to both of these during the evening. other than that, frats and sororities occasionally host off-campus parties at bars that are further away (breakaway and deansboro), and bus service is also provided to these places. a lot of the socializing takes place either in social spaces on campus, or in dorms. it is far from a city clubbing scene, but i think it helps to foster a greater sense of community on campus, and i know my gpa wouldn’t be as high if i was in an urban area.

i think hamilton is pretty split politically. conservatives say it is too liberal, liberals say it is too conservative. coming from public high school in california, it is a far more conservative environment that i am used to, however i think that just leads to more interesting class debates. i like that both sides of an argument are represented.

In years past, Hamilton has only accepted less that 10 (closer to 7) transfer students, with 3 or 4 attending. Unless things have changed, they do not take sophomore transfers, only junior.

^na there are sophomore transfers here.

After looking at the Common Data Set I realize I was as far as the numbers, and the sophomore transfers. The last time I had looked at the numbers it was 2006-2007 where only 4 transfer students we accepted and 3 attended. I see over the last few years more students were accepted; 2007-2008, 14 students were admitted while only 7 attended. This last year, 51 students were accepted and 16 attended.

Hamilton likes to keep their numbers steady, so if more student transfer out, that will open up space for students to transfer in.

This is stated on the admissions FAQ page:
Can international students apply to transfer to Hamilton?
Anyone can apply to Hamilton College, but there is very little financial aid available for international students; as a result, international students with financial need may be at a competitive disadvantage.
