Hello CC, this is my first post and I hope someone with knowledge of the UVa transfer process can help me sort my thoughts here about what the chances are of my transfer offer of admission being rescinded.

I am a rising 2nd year at Virginia Tech in the honors engineering program, but decided after my first semester to apply to UVa after becoming disillusioned with the field of engineering. I have been offered admission by the College of Arts & Sciences and have sent my signature accepting the offer. The problem rests with the results of my most recent semester where I took courses that were, for me, quite difficult, and led to less than exemplary results.

I validated 32 credits from AP scores at Tech (took all AP classes senior year, total 9, avg 4) and my SATs are 2270 (800m/690v/780w) with sat II's (800 math II, 800 chemistry) and so I was thrown into only technical courses for my 2nd semester, pertaining to my to-be engineering major that I already disliked. My high school GPA was 3.78 and my first semester at Tech (17 credits) was a 3.74. The other areas of my application were strong, with varsity athletics, many other eca's and good essays. This, of course, is not the problem.

Spring 2008 semester:
2nd semester intro engineering: B+
2nd semester physics: B- (difficult for me, but trudged through)
2nd semester physics lab: (no separate grade from above)
differential equations: C- (unexpected poor final exam--concern #1)
honors multi variable calculus: Withdraw (concern #2)

The withdraw was a mix of many things that I found were unbecoming of me, including a poor start due to not focusing enough on keeping myself motivated, or incompatibility with the professors abstract teaching method perhaps? This is all retrospective analysis of course, and I won't make excuses for my performance, but I thought I should give some sort of explanation since I am typically a respectable math student.

Essentially I took only 12 credits in my second semester due to their grueling nature and my inability to sign up for additional classes in my major because of prereqs (and because I was done with area requirements). However, I withdrew from one class and then got a C in another--the combined results of two exams taken unprepared. This brings my 1st year GPA down to a 3.29. This is something I plan to never repeat.

Can anyone provide insight as to whether or not I should be worried? I apologize for my long-winded post but please understand how much I feel as though my future is teetering on the sharpest of mountain peaks ready to crumble at the breeze of one summer's envelope of judgement. lol. (decided to stop being so serious). Anyway, please help if you can!
