Transfer admissions for cal poly SLO city planning?

So I’m currently a second year community college student trying to transfer into cal poly, and I will be applying this upcoming October for the 2012-13 filing. I have a 3.21 gpa(will increase after this semester), part of 2 honors programs at my community college, and I’ve volunteered for a semester with an activist group called CALPIRG. I have read many intimidating and scary forums about perfect students getting denied from cal poly, and I’m freaked out that regardless of what I do I will not be accepted to cal poly. What other things can I do to increase my chances of being admitted to the school? Also I have no idea on how to get some work experience in the planning field. I’m really freaked out about this, and cal poly is my #1 choice. Any advice?

I am a transfer student in my first year at Poly for city planning.
I transferred from a four-year out of state with a GPA of 3.3. I didn’t have any planning field experience nor did I attempt to take the support courses for the major.

City planning is such a small program. I think it is a little easier to get into because most don’t even know of it’s existence.

You should be fine :]
good luck!

Be aware that Cal Poly is trying to build up its out of states student body for 2011 up to 10% of total student population.

Not as a dig on Seattlelove, but OSS students will have an easier time for transfer than in state students because of the university’s desire for higher tuition from OSS students. So your stats might not be applicable to a CA student.

Regardless of OSS students have a bit easier time for admittance, the overall transfer rate for your college of architecture is a 11.8%.

Thanks for the info guys. I also forgot to mention that I am an in state student, not out of state. I’m aware of the intense competition of cal poly’s college of architecture and environmental design, so I’m definitely working on getting my stats up by the end of this summer. I’ve visited the campus and spoken to an advisor in the department, but basically all she told me was to complete the golden 4(which I will be done with ending this upcoming fall), and see what happens. Not much help, so I’ve still been freaking out since.

So anyone else have some advice?
