transfer admissions vs freshman admissions

just as a general question, how do transfer admissions differ from freshman admissions in terms of the process, weight of different admissions factors, etc?

Go to the Transfer Students forum and read the sticky thread at the top: Transfer Admissions 101.

In a nutshell, much of the process is the same but with the addition of college information (HS & college transcripts, test scores, essays, LORs from college instructors, ECs, etc.). Weighting of admissions factors depends on whether you apply as an entering soph (greater emphasis on HS record and test scores) or as a jr (greater emphasis on college work and activities).

Another factor is admission rate, which is usually higher (sometimes considerably so) for freshman than for transfers.

One advantage to the transfer process is that after your second year for many colleges they no longer look at SATs as a factor in the admissions process. Of course this is not always the case the ivies for example still require them regardless of how many credits you have.
