transfer admissions?

hey all, middlebury is one of the schools i am considering applying to for a fall 2006 transfer (i'll be a sophmore). I was just wondering that given the really low acceptance rate for transfers what it is that people do to stand out? I mean I'm sure most people that apply there have a great GPA, tough courseload, at least decent test scores and good ECs. Does anyone have any insights on how they pick such a small number from such a well qualified bunch?

Recommendations certainly help. What I believe the admissions staff is looking for are people with a lot to offer to campus life, people who are involved in clubs, who are leaders on campus, who have extracurricular interests and who are passionate about education and about the life of the campus.
