I'm currently a student at the University of Rochester. The school is great, but I don't mesh well with the campus here because there aren't many activities to do here, and I'd definitely like to be more active with my college life.

I'm considering applying to NYU CAS because I'm following a pre-med track. To cut to the chase, my grades will likely end up as:

Chemistry 131 - A
Calculus 161 - A
Biology 110 - A/A-
Ethics - B+

Assuming I do get these grades, I'd have a ~3.8 GPA

I'm doing well with connecting with some of my professors, so I'm sure I'd get great recs from them. I've also taken up a E-board member position of my residence hall's Hall Council.

As far as my HS grades/stats are concerned:

3.4 GPA (89/100)
2140 SAT (750 M, 790 WR, 600 CR)
730 Math II, 710 CHM

I plan on applying to NYU for next year's fall semester.
In short, what are my chances/where do I stand right now? What should/can I do to improve my chances.

I don’t know too much about NYU’s criteria but based on your profile you look fairly good. You should really emphasize why you want to go to NYU. What is it about NYU that your current school, or any other school for that matter, does not have? How is NYU tailored to your interests and such. Keep showing improvement this next semester. Try to really get to know a professor so you can get good letters of rec. Really concentrate on your essays for the application!

we don’t have a “pre-med” major, so you’ll have to declare a major when you choose to transfer here. you’re definitely on the right track. i would maybe join a few more ECs, or get a job or something. being on e-board is great, though.

i would also work hard on your essays. you’re definitely on the right track!

haha, i don’t have much advice but i’m a sophomore at nyu trying to transfer to rochester i’m not doing pre-med but a bunch of my friends are and idk if it’s the classes or if they’re just overachievers but they basically do nothing BUT study and really don’t have a lot of time to explore the city or anything at all

also if you’re looking for stuff to as in…in the city then obviously nyc is going to offer more than rochester but my experience and the experience of all of my friends here has been that there’s not a whole lot going on on “campus” - all the clubs i’ve tried to join were lackluster at best and people concentrate more on stuff in the city than doing stuff with the school. but like i said that’s just my experience so if you transfer here hopefully yours will be different!
