Hey guys well I will be attending University of Central Florida this fall and am thinking about transferring after one year. I was wondering what you think my chances are for University of Florida, University of Miami, Emory, NYU, and any IVY's you think I could get into?

Sat: 1490/1600
Sat II: Physics 510, Spanish 490, --> Yes I know, I was really sick during exam.

In high school, I took

AP American, AP Physics B, AP Government and Politics, AP English

In all my APs my grades were in the low 90's

My high school GPA is: 84/100 --> My 9th and 10th grade average brought it down so much, but in 11th and 12th my average was high. Furthemore, I took spanish for 4 years in addition to Hebrew for 4 years.

I estimate my college gpa to be around a 3.7/4.0

my H.S. extra-curiccs are amazing and a lot of community service and job internships.

I have nice awards, and was featured in local papers for one of my awards.

Forgot to mention I'm a Hispanic Jew, hey it could help right.

In regard to sticking out for the IVYs, I have my own online business and my own store. My father owns a building and he let me rent out one of the places. I contribute a percentage of my earnings to charities.

I plan on majoring in business. So this may look quite good being that I besides having prior internships, I actually, firsthandedly, ran my own business.

UF and UMiami sure isn't a problem; honestly, you should aim higher. I think you have a decent shot at Tulane, Emory, NYU, and maybe Gtown. But of course, affordability is always a factor, nonetheless you are a shoe-in for UF and UMiami. Seriously.

yeah you're in good shape. You might also want to look at more schools in the emory/NYU range, right below ivy, just in case you end up not getting accepted at an ivy school, so you can still have alot of other choices. Not saying you don't have the stats but, just read the cornell/harvard/upenn/etc. threads... really good applicants getting rejected at those places, i'm glad i didn't apply or have my heart set on going to an ivy, the admissions process at those places would make me too nervous

sometimes you really don't know what they are looking for...you have hooks with your own business and store, and your experience with your father's real estate is also something that not everyone has. Because you are transfering after one year most committees will put an emphasis on your high school record, but there certainly have been stories of kids getting into top schools with lower than normal GPAs...I know a kid who got into harvard (as a freshman) with a 3.5 in high school (kid has an amazing story to his life though, really crazy ****)....but you never know so it certainly won't hurt to apply.

Mr Eric, yes I strongly feel you have a decent shot at those schools mentioned above. However, to enhance your chances, I couldn't stress this enough, make sure you have great essays. Given your peculiar life experiences, you could certainly write an intriguing and unprecedented essay that'll flabbergast admission officers. Seriously, the essays break or make applications. Trust.

84/100 in hs isn't that bad, especially considering it had a rising trend. Your test scores are really good and your college grades are good, and also that business thing you have going is good. You are in good shape for sure. NYU, judging from what i've read on these boards about transfer students being admitted, and people i know who go there/transferred there, i think you would almost be a for-sure admit.

though you stressing out about your hs gpa is kind of making me stress out about mine now that applications are in. Mine was much worse, trust me.

Just so you know Jews make up less than 2% of the population of the U.S. However, since many of them apply to very competitive schools, it doesn't help out much. But, they still are a minority, and, in fact, are more of a minority than Hispanics or African Americans by a landslide.

I think I know what he meant...being hispanic gives you the minority vote (in other words it means that you are looked at as a way to increase the diversity at a school) but being jewish- although they are minorities (btw- minority does not necessary mean lesser people in the population it also means that there are less of a particular group in that field/ school type) doesn't do the same since they are not minorities in the schools that you would be looking at.
