Transfer advice por favor?

Hey people! I’m going into college this fall, and at this point, I am considering a transfer. I got into Emory College, but decided to go to my state school (UT Austin) due to family and financial reasons. But I do want to go to a more “prestigious” school that is smaller, more one on one, and has better programs/quality of education. I think I do want to transfer ASAP to either Emory, Rice or Vandy. So i had a few questions.

How much does high school matter?

What are the acceptance rates for transfers for each of those schools?

How’s the financial aid at Emory, Rice & Vandy?

Here are my HS stats if anyone would please comment on the likelihood of acceptance, i suppose.

GPA: 3.93/4.0 (UW), 98.15/100 W
Rank: 8/400~
ACT: 30 (35E, 27M, 28S, 31R)
ECs: Girl Scouts (leader, treasurer, patrol leader, silver award, religious awards, working on Gold Award), Student Council (Newsletter editor/shift manager), HOSA (committee member, historian), NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish Honor Society, Key Club, Speech/Debate, Community Service (Church reading/preschool/math/religious education programs, toy/supply drives, pantry work, food banks, etc; have around 450 hours_
Awards: English Award, Silver Award, couple Religious awards on behalf of Girl Scouts, HOSA Finalist, UIL Speaking Finalist, Gold Award (working on it, like i said above…), President’s Award (Gold—>250+ service hours)
Work Experience: Private tutor, worked at Kumon, plan on working during the summer, hospital intern (clincal rounds)
~I am a good writer, so essays are my strength!
I do plan on working my tail off in college, no doubt. I want a perfect GPA lol

Any thoughtss??

Thanks dudes:D

I’m transferring to Vandy as Junior. Right now, I’m at a CC and I have a low 3.8 GPA and my only EC is a part-time job working 15-20 hours. As a Junior transfer, my poor high school record probably had little to no effect on my chances of acceptance.

The transfer rates for each school vary, with Emory and Rice being around 25% and Vandy is around 50%, or at least it was for the 08 transfers.

My FA package at Vandy was very, very good. So good that it is actually cheaper for me to go to Vandy than UTexas, which is one of the main reasons I’m transferring there as opposed to UT.

^^ graciasss  hey but i understand that since your a jr, hs is def not that important, but transferring say as early as possible, HS is definitely a huge factor, i suppose??

Anyone else, por favor? :D

so old high school grades really don’t matter so much as a transfer applicant, especially if you’ve been out of hs for like 5+ years?

Each school has a different policy when it comes to how much they use high school grades, but the general rule of thumb is that the farther out you are from high school, whether be in the form of credits or in jedis case, time, the less and less emphasis is put on your high school grades.

If you really want to transfer after one year, it probably makes sense to enroll in some classes over the summer at a cc, that way you have a semester’s worth of grades, plus an additional summer’s worth of grades to help offset your high school grades.

well my HS grades are actually gonna help me out here. Unfortunately, i cannot slack off even now, seeing as how grades still “count” toward the final transcript. :(
