Transfer advice

My son's friend decided to apply (in Jan.) to BS. She did get into several schools and accepted one. Now that she has done more research, she really wants to attend a school that she was waitlisted at. Her plan is to attend the school that she chose and to apply next year to her 1st choice and a few other schools.

Her Mom is afraid that this will affect future financial aid if she ends up staying at the same school and is also wondering how this will look to her teachers because she will have been at the school for only 2-3 months before she is asking for reference letters.

Does anyone have experience or advice with this type of issue??

It should not in any way affect financial aid.
It is unusual to go in, planning to switch. Some people do transfer, but usually it is after they have experienced the school for at least a year and decide it is not for them. Teachers will most likely frown on her plan.

She should go to the school she was accepted at with an open mind; she might end up really liking it.

There was someone who had posted earlier in the year about her experience of transfering to a different prep school. She had only been at her school for 2-3 months, didn’t care for it, and applied to a bunch of other schools. She didn’t get in to any of the schools she applied to. Fortunately for her, her parents hired an educational consultant who contacted the schools and found out the reason she was rejected was because the schools felt she didn’t give her original school enough time, and even though she didn’t say anything negative about the school she was attending, they felt she was, in essence, “trashing” the school by wanting to leave. The ed consultant was able to work on this perception, and she did get into a school later in the year. However, financial aid was not an issue.
