Transfer Advice?

I am currently a first year at a small private all woman's liberal arts school. It has been a month and I am already getting the sense that this place just isn't for me. I think I need something a little bit bigger, co-ed, a little more relaxed and "down to earth" if that makes any sense. I would like to consider the option of applying at a university in my home state. I would like to hear from anyone who has transfered after one semester, anyone who's planning to, or anyone who just has some good advice!

I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to say that I am in the EXACT same situation. I'm really looking forward to seeing what everyone's responses are!

I'm planning on it too. I kind of wish there were support groups for transfers...

I get the feeling the OP and seaswan are the same person =p

Anyway, this entire forum is a support group! A group of people all with the same thing on their mind, transferring from their current school to a new school for any number of reasons and come here to discuss it.

Now the majority of the people on these boards, in my observation, tend to aim high when it comes to schools they want to transfer to, going for those first-tier top 50 schools. I don't know so much if it's cause we're all unhappy with where we are now or we just have a desire to go to one of those prestigious schools. For me it's alittle of both. But that's another discussion entirely.

To start, I'd say YES, you should definitely look into transferring given your current situation.. however it would help for you to give us a little more info before we can suggest things, for example you want to stay in state.. what state are you in? Are you looking for a high ranked school? What's your academic record like? Keep in mind some schools require you to complete 1 full year of college and wouldn't let you transfer after 1 semester, and other schools have no restrictions when it comes to that. Many mid-to-large universities offer the atmosphere you're looking for, so you've got a lot to choose from. Keep us posted.
