Hi I’m a college Freshman who’s trying to transfer out at after or during Sophomore year.
I’m trying to transfer to top 50-60 schools.
My profile is
School: UIC Business School
SAT: 1380
Math Level 2: 780
US history:710
High school: A local overpriced +not prestigious private school, no AP’s, no gpa above 3.5/4.0
Financial aid is fine (Better be lol)
Out of State (My state does not have top 80 schools)
Should I better apply for Liberal Arts majors?
I wrote honest. Do I stand a chance? Or just hope for grad school?
PS: Should I better not apply to schools that I got rejected/ declined offer for Freshman?
If I don’t stand a chance please say it honest because then I’ll get off from this stress and just enjoy the school life.
You started asking about transferring to a more prestigious school before you even enrolled at UIC. If OOS costs are an issue, look into transferring to a school back in Iowa. If not, focus on doing well where you are. A 2.86 high school GPA will make transferring to a more competitive school a challenge, so transferring to a more selective school before junior year probably isn’t an option.
Why would you apply for liberal arts majors if you want to be an accountant? Getting in doesn’t matter if you’re not accepted to the major you want. You’ve also asked about applying to schools that rejected you in high school. If they require your high school transcript, I don’t think a year of college grades will make a huge difference. They’ll probably still have your first application on file anyway, so they’ll know you applied before.
I’d focus on UIC for now. Try really hard and see where you are a year from now. If you continue to spend a lot of time focusing on how to get into “better” schools, you’re going to waste the opportunities at the school you’re attending.
I heard that 2 years in college can make high school records less effective. I guess that was meant like 10% less effective or something.
Yeah to be honest I know it is for my own good but I won’t be that motivated if my high school gpa will kill the gpa from 2yrs of college.
I think I would have better life living as some random major from top 50 school than accountant from this school. (Big firms don’t give anything about this school)
should I not hope too much?
@Fonz93 You need to work hard where you are and strive for high grades.
Going to a top 50 university, or even a top 1 university, is not an automatic ticket to success. You will have professors who really know their stuff at a top 50 university, but you also have professors who really know their stuff where you are now. At top schools you will have more homework and more difficult tests and exams. You won’t get any magic.
Work hard. Keep ahead in your class work. Try to be precise and accurate in your work, whether this involves math problems or writing papers or posting questions and responses on College Confidential.
