Transfer Aerospace Engineering

Hey all,

Does anyone know how hard it is to transfer into aerospace engineering? I checked the admissions website and the GPAs there seemed kind of low, but Tech's program is ranked high nationally (4th?), so I imagine people transfer in with higher GPAs than those. I can't seem to find current data on transfers there.

Do they accept a large proportion of in-state versus out-of-state students?

If you have the course requirements and minimum GPA, as the website says, you should be very competitive for admission. Below is a link to average transfer GPAs for all majors in the past few years. It leaves out a lot of information (like in-state vs out of state, etc) but this is a good start. They haven’t posted stats that I’ve found about in-state and out of state proportions, so this is the best I can do.

As I’m sure you’ve read, the more competitive majors have higher GPA reqs (as high as 3.5 for OOS), so I think their GPA requirements are reasonable. They significantly increased these GPA requirements for this summer and beyond (make sure you’re looking at the right page). It went up to 3.0 min for all majors in-state and 3.3 for the competitive majors in-state (I think 3.3 and 3.5 for out of state). They consider your math and science GPA only for the real math and science courses (like Calc & beyond, Calc based physics, etc) as well as overall GPA, so I think their GPA requirements are reasonable.

That’s surprisingly straightforward. Thanks for the link!
