Transfer after 1 or 2 years?

I am currently a first year engineering student at a mediocre college. I am hoping to transfer out into more prestigious school.
This semester, I have applied to University of Illinois @ Urbana Champaign and GA Tech, both of which I was accepted for the upcoming Sophomore year. Both these schools boasts a top-notch engineering program despite their so-so overall reputation.

However, I have realized that if I wait another year and maintain a GPA of 3.8+, I may have some chance to other schools such as Cornell and UC Berkeley which is known for their engineering as well as overall reputation.

I strongly want to hear opinions of what I should do. Should I just transfer out this year to UIUC or GA Tech? Or should I wait another year?

Thank you

Are you in state for Berkeley? What are your SAT scores?

I am out of state for all of these schools. SAT was 1400/1600, but I believe it won't matter much for junior transfer.

I would need a little more info to give you good advice.

1.What do you plan to do with your degree?
2.How did you do in high school?
3.Can you afford a school like Cornell or UC Berkeley. If no, then will you be able to get FinAid.
4.Do you have good ECs at your current institution?

I don't understand why you didn't just apply to Berkeley and Cornell this year in addition to UIUC and GA Tech. If you had gotten in, then you wouldn't be having this discussion.

UC Berkeley is a selective university and even much more selective for out of state transfers. You can only apply to UC Berkeley only if you have finished the minimum 60 semester or 90 quarter units.

I think waiting for next year and working hard to pull up GPA as well as building strong resume(adding EC's) would be reasonable.
