I have some quick questions:

If I transfer to another undergrad institution, will that be frowned upon by med school? (note: not for academic reasons--for social scene reasons)

If I transfer to an out-of-state school, can I still claim residency status in my home state? For instance, I live in/graduated from high school in NE, but want to transfer to IA. Will I still be considered a resident of NE for med school applications? My dream med school is in NE.

Thanks tons!

You should still be considered a resident. In general it’s very hard to change your state’s residency (for applications such medical school) quickly. If you are only going to IA for academic reasons, then it’s most likely that you’ll keep your state’s residency.

1) No, but you might be harder pressed to have as strong of a resume and set of LORs depending on when you transfer.
2) Shouldn’t be a problem. Some schools reserve the right to determine your residency regardless of what the state says. They factor in if you went OOS when they decide. I haven’t every heard of anyone losing in state status just because they went OOS though, and most schools don’t seem to do this.
