Transfer and Social Life

Hello, I apologize if this question has been asked before, but I'm wondering what effect transferring schools has on social life during college?

Let me explain the reason why I'm asking. I'm currently a Freshman living on campus at UCSD, and am considering transferring to Cal Poly Pomona next year; at Cal Poly, I would be living at home. I was just wondering if making this transfer would be a setback socially...

well depends on your situation, why do you want to transfer to cal poly?

I'm interested in participating in their architecture program, which is not offered at UCSD. It would also be a lot cheaper to attend Cal Poly than it would be to attend UCSD.

well since social life is essentially non existent at UCSD, you shouldnt have a problme.. ahha

Social life is non-existent at UCSD?

Sorry, but you're making a ridiculous generalization. I would say that UCSD's on C-A-M-P-U-S life is less lively than, uhhhhh, UCLA, but.. just considering sd's off campus surroundings, attending ucsd can speak volumes for social life.

Are you just saying that because it's not considered a typical "party-school" like ucsb or colorado?

lol

well, La Jolla isn't really a college community...and for most on-campusers, getting away is a tad difficult, as you'll have to spend a bit of time on pub transit. For people like me who spend a lot of time studying, it's just inconvenient.

Besides that, ucsd is not what I would call a vibrant campus...politically and culturally apathetic for the most part. It's really an oversized technical/research school trying to fulfill the obligations of a four-year public institute with a sizeable proportion of its funding tagged to research.

I see, thanks for the clarification... it does seem that way, yes...

But, there are PLENTY of housing communities off-campus that are realistically no more than 10 mins. from campus.
