Transfer Appeals

Whats up everyone,

This thread may become helpful in the next few weeks. I'm currently waiting on UCSD (From UCD Mechanical Engineering (Alt: MAE Engineering Science 3.20) and I started thinking about appealing if I were to get rejected. Is that possible? And if so is there a link to the page?

Here is my situation (if you're interested)...
I know it takes drastic measures to really challenge a decision and people will be very critical as to what exactly constitutes a legit reason so I will explain my situation briefly.
So this past fall I did rather poorly and got a 2.8 (first time ever sub 3.0). The primary reason was due to my mother getting breast cancer and my grandfather dying of lung cancer which happened 2 weeks before finals. Then a week later, my little brother, a freshman at UCSD failed to commit suicide. And i'll leave it at that.
Initially I wanted to transfer for UCSD's great engineering, but now, it has become of great personal importance to really get into UCSD. If I'm there I will be able to help him and guide him through recovery otherwise he is 800mi away from family.
Sorry to be a downer but ya think I have a good chance at getting in the first time around? And whats the deal with transfer appeals?

I’m not sure what the deal is with transfer appeals, but you should already be good enough to get accepted to UCSD soon when they release the next batch (especially if your TAG.) As with appealing, with your circumstances, I’m sure it will be granted.

@ epikhigh:

Those are definitely some significant circumstances which weren’t reported on your November 30 application. They sound compelling enough to me for you to be admitted on appeal, especially with an overall GPA of at least 3.0.

P.S. I like this thread haha - I felt like an idiot when I created one that was just like this, and a lot of people bashed me like I was a n00b. (by any chance did you come across it? I too am waiting for and wanting UCSD and had the same concern as you–I haven’t heard from them yet. I haven’t started my appeal letter yet though)

In any case, best wishes to ya.

what would u guys say is a decent length the appeal should be. 1 page?

@ Gorbertjones: I’m at school right now (.'. slow WiFi) but I remember seeing online a guidelines page for writing UC appeals. I think the page I’m referring to said 1 page is good length. It can be found on google somewhere–let me know if it isn’t and I’ll get the link. I think I bookmarked it.

I’ve tried finding it. If you can, please upload the link. Thank you!

I love Epik High!

Anyway, your circumstances are extreme and, yes, they are compelling enough for a second shot. If you were rejected, definitely write an appeal.

thanks for all the responses and help everyone!

@Oliver_Twist:
Do you know if there is an online appeal form or an address to send the appeal to?

If you don’t know it’s alright, I’ll just call admissions if I happen to get rejected. By the way, you have to love the haters on this site. People get bashed for just being curious so it’s a little ridiculous, but all in the game of college admissions!

@edelynly: YESS! I was listening to their new album while starting this thread :D

Hopefully I just get into the next batch. That would make life much easier but so far, nothing on MyTritonLink has changed. Thanks again!

Good luck, epik high.
I’m sure they will get into SD.
