I’m disappointed that there is not an official transfer thread for Tulane. Anyways…
I sent in my application on March 5th. My college transcript was received a few days before that. And my high school transcript was sent out in the beginning of March and marked received on the 13th. (Oh, and my test scores were waived).
When do you think I should expect a decision?
Admissions decisions for transfers are rolling so you should hear back within the next few weeks!
@HazelnutorFootball Also, I have another quick question. I wrote the optional “Why Tulane” essay. But under my Common app, there’s a red minus sign under the writing portion. However, when I download the PDF of my submitted app, the writing portion is there. Advice??? I want to make sure they received it! Thanks.
You should call them. They are amazingly nice on the phone. There is a destination Tulane session with a transfer component on 4/21. hopefully you hear before then so you can attend. Have you applied anywhere else?
Just gonna backpack off of @bklyngal’s suggestion and recommend attending Destination Tulane on 4/21. Free entry to Crawfest!
@WeLoveLyman are you a new transfer? or did you transfer last year? Any suggestions? If you transfered last year was housing available on campus? I will be a sophmore and really do not want to live off campus. ANy info would be appreciated.
@bklyngal @WeLoveLyman Ha, this is exactly why I made this post! I am dying to know when decisions come out, so I can make travel arrangements for Destination Tulane.
@bklyngal @aznboi4981 I transferred last year and I got my decision in early March because I applied early. I already live in NOLA, so I stay off campus with my parents, but I know a lot of students in my transfer class and I believe they were all able to secure housing, most if not all on-campus; I haven’t heard otherwise.
Are either of you planning on joining the transfer chat tonight? I’m certain they’ll be able to answer a lot of questions that I can’t, but if you have more, ask away!
@WeLoveLyman I will be there! I am looking forward to it. As a commuter, have you ever found yourself without a niche in the school/isolated? I commute to my current school, and I think that is one of the main reasons I have had such a poor experience.
In the beginning, it was difficult for me but that’s being introverted on top of living a 30-minute drive away. You get to meet all of your fellow transfers and you go on a night out with them before you get on campus; then, once you get on campus, there are optional transfer meetings throughout the semester where you eat and chat with fellow transfers. So, for a few weeks my only friends were transfers, but I adjusted quickly after I started meeting people in classes and joining clubs! It’s not difficult to make friends if you attend social events or even talks and lectures outside of class, and you can join pretty much any club at any time throughout the semester.
The only “bad” part about being a commuter anywhere, and I’m sure you know this, is not having a place to crash on campus during the day, haha!
didnt go to the transfer chat because I am going to destination Tulane in April. ANything that stood out as very important? I know someone mentioned that housing could be an issue, but if I am transferring in as a sophomore am I not required to live on campus?
bklyngal- I just tranferred this semester as a sophomore. You are not required to live on campus, however I have really enjoyed on campus housing for the social atmosphere & conviency. Let me know if you ever have any more questions!
@byriatulane What state are you from if you do not mind me asking? Has it been an easy adjustment into the school (i.e. making friends) ?
I am from Houston, TX so I was already somewhat familiar with NOLA. The transition has been super easy. I’ve found myself making more friends off campus than on, but nonetheless I’ve had a very easy going experience!
@byriatulane Off campus? Wow! Explain? That piqued my interest, haha. Do you work off campus?
I want to live on campus, I am just concerned that there will be no available housing… Was that an issue for you
