My application is currently at Step 3(reviewing stage), and I already know that I will be getting denied for my 1st choice major(College of Science), because I do not meet the required courses as of now. I am wondering about my chances of being accepted into General Studies(my second choice).

I have earned 25 credit hours so far, and am currently enrolled in 16 this semester. I have a 4.0 GPA, but the main thing that worries me is the classes I have completed. Basically, quite a few courses that I have taken are transferable, but really do not mean much to my degree. Mainly I am talking about math classes that I am required to take before I can move onto my major math classes(Calculus I and II).

So, does anyone have any information regarding transferring into general studies? Does the strength of schedule play a vital role in determining admission to general studies?

Curious, how long did it take for your transcripts to be processed? Not sure about general studies. I put that as second choice too but have a way lower gpa.

My transcript took a few days to process after it was received, I think. I can’t remember, but it did not take very long. Then again, I sent by mail AND digitally, just to be safe.

My application has been at step 3 for a while now…it’s kind of worrying me. :(

Hey Adam I’m in the exact same situation as you are…have a 4.0 and am trying to get into College of Science but don’t have the required courses. Everything I’ve seen has indicated that we should both be fine…keep your fingers crossed!

you should be in… 4.0 is good

@nokkitt

he will just have to send his transcript in when he gets the other hours so he probably wont know for awhile

Right, that was another thing. I was just kind of hoping that they were mainly talking about 28 before the semester of enrollment. Obviously this could mean that I may not get accepted until they see my Spring transcript, which would kind of suck. The only thing that gives me hope right now is my current GPA, but i’m not too sure how far that will get me if I’m falling short of the requirements.

Thanks a bunch for the responses, by the way!

Matt and Kitt: let me know how things go :). I’ll update when I see something on AIS.

Well, I got a denial on AIS today, as I was kind of expecting. I will be sending them my Spring transcript as soon as I can. I am doing very well in my classes so far, so I anticipate keeping my 4.0. Hopefully with 41 hours completed I will at least make it into general studies.

Do you know if you got denied because you had 25 hrs instead of 28? So are you still going to be able to get in after they look at your spring transcript?

I’m not sure if that’s the reason, but I assume so. The response said that they will still consider me for fall, as long as I send in transcript by June 1st.

Another thing, I also spoke to the associate dean at the college of science during TID(Transfer Information Day), and he said that as long as I send in my transcript and he sees A) That I made an A or B in my current science classes this semester and B) That I am enrolled in bio and chem 2 for the summer, that I will be accepted into the College of Science.

I have already registered for these classes this summer, but I still find that I am worried about not getting accepted. I guess there really isn’t a way to find out if the denial was due to being short 3 hours, huh?

WOW! So, I just received an email from admissions today saying that they made an error in processing my application. Apparently my history class duplicated, showing that I only had 22 hours as opposed to 25, so they didn’t even send my transcript anywhere because I didn’t meet the minimum requirements. So now they are processing my transcript, which means that the denial letter came prematurely, haha.

I am really not so sure if this will change the decision in the end, but i’m very glad that they decided to contact me regarding the issue. I will post again when the ACTUAL decision is made.
