Transfer Applicant Support

Each of my professors filled them out for me on the spot and handed them back to me, and then I mailed them all out at once. I don't think it would really matter. If it did I'm sure they'd specify that they want the teacher to mail it personally.

Also finally got the chair of the English department to fax my advisor form to the three schools that need it. >.>! Thanks for the kick in the butt, Collegegirl. lol I took your advice and went to the chair with the whole situation. I'm really shy so it's difficult for me to be assertive at times, but I just kinda sucked it up and went for it. You are the sage of Barnard transfer wisdom. lol I'm also sending a letter to Barnard with an explanation on my Official's report fiasco, even though I've also contacted them via phone and e-mail.

thank you very much!

good for you on the advisor situation. i honestly can't imagine going through that, as I'm rather shy as well. You stress out about the essays and grades and it never occurs to you that people who are compensated to do that sort of thing for you will refuse. Hopefully everything you've gone through will be worth it!

Okay, so the applications were supposed to be postmarked by April 1st but not necessarily received by April 1st? I Express mailed my application on Monday and the post office said that it would get there on the Tuesday (the 1st). I live in Ohio, so it's not like I live on the other side of the country. However, today I tracked it on the USPS site and they said it wasn't received until the 2nd. Someone did sign for it, but I don't want it to be like "I'll sign for it, but the committee still isn't reviewing it..."

Good for you, AmenoMusicista! It's good to hear you got someone to actually do the job you pay them to do. I understand their point of view, but they had to know that someone needed to fill out the form.

Re-nuh - If you express mailed your application on Monday, you'll be fine. The adcoms at Barnard aren't looking for arbitrary reasons to reject you. It was postmarked by the 1st, so I really think you'll be okay on that end of things. Don't worry too much, and good luck with the rest of the process!

Have any of you received the information (sort of pin number) we need to start tracking our applications?

I received my tracking info maybe a day after I submitted my application.

Alright, that's a bit worrisome. I submitted my common app online and mailed in the supplement about a week and a half ago. Perhaps that's why mine is delayed? Can I ask if you submitted everything online?

thanks for the response.

Oh sorry, that might've been important to note. I sent both parts of the application in online. I sent the common app portion on march 3rd and the supplement the following day. I received my tracking info the same day the supplement was submitted.

Since you sent the supplement last week that might be why you haven't heard anything yet, especially depending on how far you are from Manhattan.

Alright, I'm sure that's why mine is taking a bit longer. And surely a fair amount of people sent in applications right around the deadline, so they're probably a
bit swamped. I'll make a phone call tomorrow to see if they've received everything.

Thanks again, best of luck!

So, I logged onto the application tracking page, fully expecting everything to e there, and realized that my high school transcripts have still not arrived. Other colleges have recieved them, is there something wrong?

I asked Barnard previously why certain things aren't showing up, but they say the tracking page is sometimes behind. But if you're still worried it couldn't hurt to give Barnard a call!

Thanks AmenoMsicista, I will give them a call. Did your tracking page ever catch up, or is it still showing some things blank? I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who's isn't caught up.

It still says that I need my teacher recommendation even though all of the other schools have it, and they just added my advisor rec today. lol

Hopeful, I had that exact same problem. I called Barnard today and they told me, as others have already mentioned, that just because it says you are missing something doesn't mean they dont have it. I sent my final high school transcript in a package with all my other things, which they have received, and it still says they haven't gotten it. she looked it up and said it wasn't in the system but not to worry bc if they are missing anything they will email us in the next week.

hope that helps! if you are really worried just give them a call. it took about a minute and seemed to be pretty simple for (i think it was a student worker) them to look it up.

did everyone submit their mid-semester reports and course catalogs? i just found out about these two things today because these weren't in the tracker. i'm sending them in immediately...but every time i called to make sure my app was complete, they assured me that nothing was missing. why?

In the three weeks since I've submitted my transfer applications, I've committed to a few pretty weighty extracurricular activities. I'm working as volunteer coordinator for the Clinton campaign in my area about 25 hours a week, I've started sitting on the panel for my school's news station (basically cnn style, sit and yap about the candidates/primaries and pretend the anchor is in fact Anderson Cooper), and I'm reporting for thepalestra.com. None of these are on my application, but they have proven to be pretty big commitments. Do you think it's appropriate/necessary/out of line to send a brief fax to Barnard with these updates?

Surely, it's very late in the admissions process, and it's a distinct possibility they have already made a decision regarding my admissions, but these particular activities are related to subjects I would potentially pursue at Barnard, so for that reason I thought they may be worthy of mention? I don't know, what do you guys think?

thank you! hopefully the wait won't be too much longer.

MayDub, I think you should send in the new information. When I was applying to Barnard, I did some new stuff in my senior year that wasn't mentioned on my application but was pretty important.. so I made a revised activities resume and told my guidance counselor to send it in.

Good luck on the transfer!!

To anyone who has successfully transfered to Barnard: When did you receive your decision? On the website, it says that decisions would be sent out starting April 20th...

If it is May 10th and I still haven't heard back, should I expect the worst?

I applied last year as well and got my decision May 14th. Last year it seemed like the international applicants got their letters first, and then the American applicants, and then finally the rejection letters (hence the late date on mine).

Has anyone heard anything yet?

rejected. again. **** barnard.
