MayDub, you should definitely discuss this with someone in admissions!

Also, thanks Swong :-).

Have any other transfer admits received aid packages yet? I am paranoid about financial aid since the tuition this year is about as much as my mom's income.

okay seriously barnard needs to mail me my decision now so i can have a peace of mind and send in a deposit to another school. the woman on the phone said that the last batch will be mailed out ON may 15th, which means i won't find out until the 18th or so.

My daughter heard on May 17 and was accepted. So it shows that you can be among the last group of replies and still be accepted.
Now she has to decide whether to go. She visited several times when she was a senior in high school and loved it. (She just completed her freshman year in college.) However, now she has made friends and plans at her current school and is reluctant to change. But she has not been challenged academically at her current school.
Barnard has given her two weeks to make a decision. So we will not have long to wait to find out where she is going next year.

How exciting, Penndad, that she has this choice to make. I am glad she has made good friends/connections at her present school, and wish her luck in making this choice. I am assured, though, that she will do very well regardless of her decision. Let us know what happens!

I am applying to Barnard College as a junior for the Spring 09 semester. My gpa sucks (2.95) because in the past two years I have received mostly Bs three As and five Cs. And the past three years have been heinous for me. I intend to retake the C classes.

I have great essays, letters of recommendation, and one leadership position (held 1 1/2 years). Do I have a shot? What can I do to improve? Is there any insider information you guys could provide?

Infa78, I do hope others with more knowledge of transfer stats at Barnard respond, but I did not want to have your post "ignored":

I think you know what you need to do to improve your chances for admission into Barnard as a transfer, and that is to improve your GPA. You said that the past three years have been "heinous" for you. How will your being at Barnard mitigate whatever made it so bad for you? I think you need to consider that and if there is some specific issue, hopefully you can explain that. However, I believe that Barnard will be looking for transfer candidates who have contributed significantly to their original schools and who are likely to be successful with the rigorous academic demands at Barnard. Your grades so far do not necessarily suggest that without some significant factors you have not shared with us.

I guess what I am saying is, nobody can say you do or do not have a "chance" at being admitted to Barnard. Your chances will be much, much better, though, with strong grades going in. I can almost promise you that Barnard will not be "easier" than your present school....

Any more experienced voices than mine out there? I sure hope so!

I would agree with what CMM is saying.
First Barnard has to assess your academic ability. The SAT and ACT are admittedly a rough measures of a combination of ability and past exposure, but they have to have some idea before letting you transfer.
Second, Barnard is a difficult environment academically. There is no one to pump up your grades by doing really bad academically. They are all smart and work hard. (OK, there are a few party animals but not enough to help you)
So, the committee will want to see some indication of your academic performance.
