Transfer Applicant Thread Fall 2016

@jwagtransfer
Same!!! I’ve been worrying about how the reputation of my school will play into everything. Most people who try to transfer in seem to come from really good schools. & Wow I tried to go through some old threads but I didn’t notice the two waves trend. I already want to log into my portal everyday but it’s going to drive me crazy!

@emilyatk I’ve gotten the vibe that when admissions looks over our transcripts, if they don’t think close to 24 credits are transferrable they probably won’t accept you. I was really freaked out about it because even the general science courses at my school seem different from those at Barnard when I compared the course descriptions; BUT the good news is UNC accepted all of my first semester classes so this gives me hope that Barnard might too! The reason it’s so important that your credits are accepted is because Barnard expects everyone to graduate on time. So I’m crossing my fingers for the both of us.

Hi, I’m also applying to transfer to Barnard!
I’m pretty sure (based on the BCadmit twitter posts from last year) that they will send out an email in early May announcing the exact date and time when decisions will be emailed. From what I can tell, they send that email about a week before decisions come out.
I’m so nervous, good luck everyone!

Omg that’s super good to know! We log into our application tracking page for the decision right? @StarryCityGirl

@deepcountrygirl I think they either send an email or mail you something, but it won’t be on the tracking portal (or at least it hasn’t in previous years)

@deepcountrygirl @jwagtransfer Yeah, I think the decision will be directly on the email they send and then if we get in (fingers crossed) the email will also have information about a Barnard ID for the admitted students portal.

@StarryCityGirl Omg I’m dying. Where else did you apply? I tried Columbia as well and they sent out an email today saying decisions would be released on May 4th through our application tracking portal.

@deepcountrygirl I wish Barnard would do that too! If I had a set date for when I would find out maybe I wouldn’t be so incredibly stressed (who am I kidding…I’d be more stressed)

haha well, 2 weeks at the most! Did you apply anywhere else? @jwagtransfer

A state school in New York. I put down a deposit there because it’s due May 1st. I’m glad I have an awesome place to go but I don’t wanna give up hope just yet! @deepcountrygirl How about you?

I pretty much re-applied everywhere that I applied to my senior year cus all my apps got cancelled then </3 UNC Chapel Hill, Duke, Queens, Columbia and The Beloved Barnanrd. Guna send in my deposit to Queens College tomorrow to keep that option open. Honestly have no idea what I’m guna do if I don’t get into BC or CC though #-o @jwagtransfer

I feel like I have 0 chance coming from a community college but ¯_(ツ)_/¯. The wait is killing me slowly. I cant take it.

@deepcountrygirl I only applied to Barnard X_X so if I don’t end up there, I’m staying at my current college!

Do you like your current college somewhat? @StarryCityGirl Is it in NYC or nah?

@deepcountrygirl It’s a public college in NYC. It doesn’t have many clubs to get involved with and it doesn’t have everything that I’m interested in studying but I got a full scholarship, which was the main reason I was hesitant to leave. But Barnard does have everything that I want to study!
How are you liking your college?

@deepcountrygirl @StarryCityGirl I’m in the same boat, Barnard is the only place that I applied and if I don’t get in I have to stay at my public university in Arizona. It isn’t a terrible place and I can get involved but I just feel like I have bigger dreams than staying there you know?

@StarryCityGirl @cjens10 I like my school but I really want to leave home. Hawai’i is so different from the rest of the world and it’s crucial to leave or you might not be functional anywhere else. I also can’t study what I want to study here, and it’s a huge financial struggle because the university is on another island from home, my parents don’t have any money to help me, so I’m living off campus because it’s cheaper, paying rent and buying food by myself. I got just enough scholarships to cover my tuition, so that was cool and I was able to pay back the loans I took out, but they aren’t guaranteed to me again next year.

Also, staying here is really risky for me because if I don’t get the same scholarships every year, I literally won’t be able to go to school because my parents wouldn’t take out loans for me. I could never ask them to do that, but the ones offered to students aren’t large enough to cover everything. I’m changing schools no matter what, but if I don’t get into Barnard I’ll be pretty heat broken X_X

All of you guys have super interesting stories, I feel inadequate haha! I am so so stressed with all of this waiting! I submitted my app in February so it feels like I’ve been waiting for eons (but the wait will be over soon). What are you guys studying at your current schools?

@jwagtransfer I’m so stressed about the waiting too! I have this mix of emotions that range from “confident about my application and my ability to get in” to “completely sure that I am never going to get in” and I never know what I’m going to feel each day, haha! I submitted my app in February too and this anxious waiting has probably taken some time off of my life! But it is finally MAY and the letters will come out this month! Thank fricken goodness!

Got in on Friday!! Barnard Class of 2019, yaaaaas! They sent out a first round of decisions, but there’s still much more to come, so don’t worry, fam.

A bit about me (because I think that’s a thing you do on this website; idk, I’m not a regular):
First-year at a liberal arts college in the Midwest (not as good as Barnard, though, but close enough)
College gpa: 3.8
SAT: 2340
8 APs (six 5s, one 4 and one 3)
I’m a creative writing / theatre double-major with the intention of becoming a comedian / comedy writer / satirist / whatever (I just want to make funny things). I’m excited to audition for the Varsity Show (it’s this century-old comedy show at Columbia)!

Best of luck to y’all! Meanwhile, I’ll be draining my already low bank account on the Barnard online store. Do I need an iron-on patch with the school crest? No. Is it in my shopping cart and am I already at checkout? You betcha.
