Transfer applicants' thread!

Those of you that applied to transfer to Columbia, post here!

Current University: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Year: Freshman
Major: Physics, math
GPA: 3.91
High school: Acton Boxborough Regional HS, Acton MA
HS Gpa: 3.3-3.4 ish unweighted, 3.8-3.9 ish weighted out of 5.
SAT I: 2170, Math 800, English and CR 680/690
SAT II: Math IIC 780, Chem 770, Bio E 680
APs: took 7 of them, got 5s on six of them (5 on BC Calc, CompSci AB, Chem, Stats, Physics B, and English Lit, 3 on US Hist.)

Reason for transfer: There's only 20 physics majors, so really easy research opportunities. Math department is much better. New York City, duh! Beats the cornfields of Urbana any day.

Where else are you applying for transfer?
MIT, Stanford

We could post essays too, if people want! That'd be fun, I think.

Hell, if I'm the only one applying to transfer, I guess I'm sure to get in :-P.

Anyone?

College: 3.8
HS: 3.6
SAT: 740 M 770 CR 740 W
SAT II: Chem 770 Math IIC 760
From Cornell. Transferring to study neuroscience.

Current canadian sophomore, hoping to transfer as a junior.

College GPA: 4.26/4.30
High school: Canadian, no GPA system. Average of 95. Top 3 of 110 graduating class.
SAT: Very, very, very bad. Taken this January during a rough time, and it was too late for a second retake.
SAT 2: None.

Transferring to economics.

I'm applying to GS, so I don't exactly count. But if I get in I might see some of you on campus this fall (and not know who you are).

Age: 29 (thus GS)

Major: Physics, or if they let me, a double major in Math and Physics, so it's nice to meet you, Goshamoossy.

GPA: 4.0 at San Francisco City College (a jc)
HS GPA: 2.2!! and I should have received much worse. Twelve years ago.
Transferring as a Junior
SAT I 2320 800 CR, 800 M, 720 W, with 9 on the essay. Flurg the essay.
SAT II Math 2 780, Physics 800.

AP's: Had they even invented those when I was in high school? I'll have to check my slide rule.

Reason for transfer: No choice. I'm at a jc. My desire to attend a school like Columbia arises, in part, from wanting to refute my craptastic hs record. Also everything Goshamoossy said about the departments holds true for me, too.

Aneece, it's great that you've been able to reverse your academic approach since your high school years! Stories like that give hope for many people and show that it's never too late :-).

not sure if this counts but seas to cc

3.75
hs: 3.5
sat: 2290
800 math/physics

intending math/physics/econ triple major

Soph at Wesleyan(CT)
HS: 4.65/5.00
College: 3.8/4 (3.6 freshman year, 4.0 sophomore year)
SAT: 2240, 800 CR, 710 M, 730 WR
SAT II: US History 800, World History 790, Biology E 760

History major. In retrospect I think I didn't write a very good personal essay. It was really cheesy and stupid. I am also applying to Cornell and Penn, though, so hopefully I'll get into one of those.

Wraider - why do you want to transfer?
Also, can people chance me, please? I'll repost my stats.
College: 3.8

^^^

Academically- I want to study Central and South Asian history, and Wes just doesn't have many resources, classes, or opportunities to do so, because it has a very Eurocentric emphasis and is pretty limited as a liberal arts school. If I go to a bigger school, I will be able to take classes that are crosslisted within fully dedicated, functional Near East/Asian Studies programs and work with professors that specialize in that field. Basically, bigger school, bigger endowment, larger faculty = more opportunities to pursue my passions.

Socially- I just am not really that happy here. Each college has its own unique personality, and I just don't think mine meshes. It is so much easier for some reason to make friends *off*campus rather than on campus. And also, I have always dreamed of playing DIAA football at one of those schools, and I want to the chance to walk on. Also my parents are kind of the stereotypical Asian parents, you know, they really only know of the Ivies (prestigewise). So if going to one will make me happier and my parents happier I think I at least owe it to them to try.

It's a total crapshoot, but I think you have as good a chance as anyone can hope for. Good luck everyone else, I submitted my essays early, but the more I look at it, the worse it looks. So I'm really not very hopeful about my chances.

bump

anyone else?

24 year old, former Morgan Stanley broker, taking the GS aptitude test the 20th of this month. Wish me luck!

esfour

I can't deal with this stress. I'm not sure if anyone else is as affected as I am, but I've had dreams for the last few nights vividly depicting me receiving admissions letters, emails, etc.
I know that I have the right stats and reasons and great rec/essays to get in, and I think that I am upset that they may not accept me for some arbitrary reason. I feel helpless.

Anyway, if anyone else wants to share, that would be great.

College: 3.94 (top 1%)
HS: (most competitive prep school) 3.88 W, 3.55 UW
SAT: 790 M 760 CR, 620 W
SAT II: Math IIC 760, USH 730, Literature 720
10 APs: 9 Five, 1 Four
Current Freshman

Oy everyone - does the "status tracking" site list your APs if you sent them? I sent my APs, but they're not listed on the tracking site... (SATs are listed, though).

I don't know if they do, but I do know that they care far more about your college GPA, SATs, etc, and that they are not required.

i'm scared guys.

We just have to hope for the best.

Has anyone had "status tracker" rescind the status of your transcripts?
For example, my college transcript was just listed as "received", but now they took down my HS transcript!
