Does anyone know how much weight is given to the essay portion of the Transfer Application? Thanks.

I can’t say a specific percentage. ND, overall, weights essays more than other schools so I think it is important to clearly state why ND is a better fit for you (without throwing your current school under the bus) and how you fit at ND. However, by far the most important factor is having the right courses and having good grades in those courses.

I don’t think the essay will make you (i.e. you won’t get in by having a great essay without the grades and the coursework). However, if your essay is very poor or doesn’t make the case for transferring, it may affect if you are accepted.

Thanks so much for your insight. Any hints/tips as to which way to steer my essay?

I have a page about this on the transfer website I made a few years back [Transferring to Notre Dame](http://community.wvu.edu/~mrn006/ndtransfer/)
