Transfer Applications

Does anyone know when decisions on transfer applications will be out?

Mid-March I believe. Wish they would come sooner!

Will CP contact us if we have missing materials?

Also, we need to submit the 1) Application 2) Fee and 3) College Transcript. Is this it?

star - I'm not sure. You can go to the admissions site and log in and there is a little checklist that comes up. It tells you what they have received. It takes a while for them to update it after they receive something. My son did the optional essay but I think that is all. Check the website and if everything isn't checked off, give them a call. My son called when after two weeks the website still said they hadn't received his transcript. They were extremely nice and they had the transcript. The online site just hadn't been updated yet.

Mid-March? Gahhh! I can't wait any longer!

Will Maryland contact us by mail? Or online?

I'm currently at a different school in a different state, and I'm studying abroad on top of that. I really don't want to have my parents opening my acceptance/rejection letter (especially if it's the latter).

They contacted me in June :-(. The thing about UMD is that if ur a transfer you wont get housing so it would probably be a good idea to go to UMD sometime soon and start looking for places, so you wont be scrambling in case you do get in.

My S received an e-mail from Maryland today telling him that he had been accepted! He is very happy. He isn't totally sure that he is going to UMD. (He is definitely leaning toward Maryland. It is either Maryland or Towson. But now he has a choice.

UMD doesn't provide housing for transfers?! That sucks...

I have heard it's extremely difficult for transfers to get housing (unless you have that community college advantage, which I don't since I'm out-of-state right now. My brother transferred there after community college and got on campus)

It's Maryland or Towson for me too, and at first I was positive I'd go to Maryland since it's farther from home and bigger and better I guess, but I'm nervous I'll have a really hard time making friends as a transfer since I don't know anyone there, and not being able to live on campus would probably add to that. I wish I didn't have to transfer, but I definitely can't do this out-of-state tuition anymore!

I guess if I don't get into one it'll make it easy though haha

I'm going to be honest--your brother is a rare, rare exception. Transfer students applying to UMD should NOT expect housing, and the first thing you should do once you decide to attend UMD is 1) make sure you can study what you want to study (i.e. if you can get into the LEP you want to get into), and 2) secure off-campus housing.

I haven't heard back yet. Should I be worried?

I just got a letter saying they're delaying my decision until they get my semester grades. Pretty disappointing since I got all As and one B+ last semester so I thought I was good in that respect.

Quite problematic since I have to commit to Towson by May 1 if I'm going there.

just curious--where are you transferring from? Are you a Maryland resident?
I received the same delayed decision letter yesterday--I had 1 year and 1 semester at JMU and currently am at Montgomery College. I figured it would be easier to get into UMD if I am at a MD community college. Not that easy, it seems. I will have an AA at MC by the end of semester, but they still want to see grades before admission to UMD. I have straight As so far, so it really is hard to wait it out. I wonder what classes will be available by the time they make a decision in the end of May or June. I thought I'd be a shoe in with the MC credits, but apparently not.
Any suggestions on ways to get a decision sooner? Should I contact the transfer admissions person at MC or UMD?
Thanks for any help from anyone out there!
Bummer.

Is there a way to access transfer decisions online? I'm studying abroad right now, so there's no way to check my mail. And calling would be expensive, since it would be charged at international cell phone rates.

I'm assuming I didn't get in since I didn't receive an email.

That's very true. Make sure when you transfer you can get into the area/major that you intend. For example: Computer Engineering at UMD is very limited, they only allow transfers who are qualified for the LEP program AND a 3.75 to get in. Otherwise, you can still get in engineering school but just not computer engineering (which might suck if you don't wanna study other things).

Yes, you can check your admission decision online. Try this link. You have to put in your e-mail address and password.

https://was-4.umd.edu/lm/secure/adm_login.asp?forward=https://www.sis.umd.edu/servlets/AdmitDec

woah, Benito! I'm coming from JMU! I'm only a freshman though, I'm trying to transfer as early as I can make friends and whatnot.

I had a 3.9 in high school and I got really good grades last semester so i dont really know what the deal is.

I'll probably end up going to Towson anyway since it sounds pretty impossible to get housing and I dont have a car.

I think they want 30 credits under your belt before accepting a transfer--especially if you are coming from an out-of-state school. It's tough being a MD resident, parents paying taxes for 30 years to the state and they toy with you this way. Worst comes to worst, I live about 20 min. to 1/2 hour from CP, so it won't be horrible if I don't get housing.

CCONN89: are you a MD resident? Have you taken a comparable course to MD's English 101 and Math 110? That seems to have some weight in their decision.

Good luck!
