Hey everyone!
I am currently a CC student, looking to transfer to a UC. I am applied in the TAG to UCI, UCSB, UCSC and UCR. Along with everyone else, I have heard nada from that.
Anywho, I am applied as a women's studies major, and I will also be applying to UCLA and UCB during the formal application period.
I have a semi-decent GPA, 3.44 in my IGETC classes, finishing the IGETC in Spring 11. I don't have EC's but I worked two jobs up to 55 hours a week during most of my time at a CC.
I am first generation Iranian in the US and am a student in need. I'm not sure how much this will affect my acceptance...
Anyway, I just wanted to hear from anyone with experience in this major as a transfer. What was your GPA etc, and what was your background overall?

I know my GPA isn't strong for Cal and LA, but I thought I may as well, you know, since the application is already filled out.

I didn't see a thread about this major, so sorry if this should go somewhere else.

P.S.
If you are in the WS program, how do you like it? I'm a little torn between religious studies as well.

Based on the above, I don’t think UCLA is out of the question. You have a decent gpa, and based on the average gpa of those admitted into women studies at ucla, the gpa was 3.49

Also, look up uc stat finder on google to get a more detailed description of how many students were accepted into other departments at other schools and what the range of their gpa was.
you may find that some majors, ie rreligious studies or study of religion is more competitive in terms of admissions than say women studies, or vise versa(such is the case at UCLA, as seen with the above link).

There are many, many job oppurtunities. It’s studying women in a sociological sense, as women have been the minority (not in numbers, but in gender), for most of, if not all of history.
You can go into law, medicine, politics, social welfare, non-profit work and education with a Women’s Studies degree.

My hope is to go straight into graduate school. I am not sure if I would like to do WS for a Masters, but something related to the field. I don’t feel like I could go far with only a bachelors in any subject right now, so grad school seems obvious. I would love to be a professor, but i would probably look more into finding work with a non profit. Being Iranian, I feel pretty compelled to do something involving Iran or the Middle East.
