Transfer Auditions anndd a Question!

Any Transfers auditioning on 3/25 at 2pm?

Also, can someone who has visited the campus tell me what the school is like? I have heard that the program isn’t what it used to be, is that true?

No one has a response?

Never been to the campus, not transferring, the program is amazing.

MChristina - I personally think that "the program of the program is not what it used to be" is one of those comments that makes the rounds and gets fueled by people who were either bitter that they did not make it in, or because they were unable to attend because of the school's hefty price tag.

My D (who attended the summer program and who will be attending in the fall), and her friends who have graduated, think the world of the faculty, the school's curriculum, and, if you love the city, you can't beat the school's location. Tisch's learning philosphy is one for independent and self motivated learners, and so again, it is not for everybody.

Bear in mind, that anywhere you go, you will find that programs have pro's and con's, and what is the best fit for you, may not be the best fit for someone else.

Thank you so much, I appreciate your feedback!

One question I have about Tisch is regarding the audition process. My understanding is that the auditors are not faculty from any of the studios but are on the administration side of Tisch. No one on the studio side has anything to do re: acceptance or placement. That seems a bit odd and I have heard from faculty at some of the studios that because of that audition process, the talent level is hit or miss. Some students are good/great and others leave faculty wondering how they got accepted--especially for voice. Has anyone heard similar?

I don't think this is true at all. My D auditioned for a drama teacher at Tisch.

triumph - the day my D auditioned, the Chair of Tisch Drama was one of the auditors. Needless to say he has quite an extensive industry related background :D.

I do think however that for any program it is difficult to make admissions decisions based on a "5 minute audition". Even Dr. John (Otterbein) mentioned on different thread, that at times mistakes may be made by even the most experienced auditors & talent can be overlooked, or, I would guess, in other cases, not so great people may make it through thanks to an outstanding audition.

In the end, at Tisch, leveled classes, and an extensive faculty will facilitate appropriate training in smaller sized classes for all those eager to learn. If now everybody could get "full rides" :D....

Does anyone know when transfer students (external) are notified?

I have had it confirmed that transfer students are not notified until May 15. Anyone have different information?

That is the official date but I recall that my D's friend may have heard earlier in May....and so perhaps it is more like "by May 15" but expect it sometime in the first half of May.

My D is a transfer applicant and we called Tisch last week regarding notifications for transfers. We were told they begin sending them out on May 1, but some will not be sent until the middle of the month.

I just got off the phone with Tisch. They said the first batch of letters went out today and the rest will be sent throughout May on a rolling basis

Good luck to all those hoping to transfer!
