Hey guys so I just need a little bit of advice/thoughts/opinions. So my freshman year of college I was admitted into the engineering program at Purdue. Everything was great, there wasn’t much that I didn’t like, and the opportunities there were endless. Unfortunately due to some personal and financial issues, I was forced to transfer to an in-state school. I am currently a junior in the Computer Engineering program at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I have grown to like, or I guess accept, UTSA but I find myself missing Purdue and I know that the opportunities including networking and the prestige of Purdue Engineering can’t be found here. I am very ambitious but I still find it hard to find the same opportunities here and I also miss the “name” of Purdue, especially when it comes to internships and grad school applications. Due to some courses not transferring and changing my major (from Mechanical Engineering to Computer Engineering), I will be graduating a year late (Spring 2017) regardless of where I choose to graduate from so that is not a factor… I’m set on transferring back but I haven’t had the best GPA since being at UTSA due to being slightly unhappy and just too many distractions and financial obligations. I know I am the only one to blame but I just don’t know if Purdue will take me back with such a crappy (2.5ish) GPA. I just want to know if you think they would even take me back and if so, is it worth the hassle of transferring back? I honestly feel like I will be better off and ultimately happier if I do.
Let me add, I really do miss the “college feel” of Purdue. I feel like it made me more focused on my schoolwork and just being a college kid. If you don’t know, UTSA is very much a commuter campus and I hate it. I feel like I’m just working my a** off trying to fit an engineering course load on the side of everything else. I also plan to live in on campus housing and have that covered by financial aide if I move back to Purdue to help decrease the amount that I have to work to pay rent. But I’m not sure if being there is best for the long run.
What about those “financial issues”? Are they resolved?
What about the “personal” issues? Are those fixed?
If both are under control, contact Purdue and ask what you need to do to be readmitted. There may be a simplified application process for you that isn’t the same as a regular transfer application.
If you aren’t readmitted, is there any on campus housing available at UTSA? Living on campus might make a big difference for you.
@happymomof1 Yes, everything is resolved. And if anything were to resurface, I believe I am now more mentally prepared to deal with it. As I stated before UTSA is very much a commuter campus so on campus housing is limited. I tried it out my first year here and I didn’t like it, it just wasn’t the same. Thank you for your feedback!
