Im currently a Freshmen enrolled at a small liberal arts college. My GPA last semester was 3.93 while taking 16 credits. I’m currently taking 20 credits keeping up about the same GPA. While my last semester was very successful academically, the same did not transpire to my social and personal life.
Before going to a party where I had too much to drink, I gave my friend my key card to my room. When we returned to my dorm room, he could not find it and I became aggravated. I call my RA to let me into my room. In the time waiting for my RA my friend was teasing me for being drunk, after i told him to shut up, he pushed me. Shortly after we were wrestling on the ground and I ended up putting him in a headlock. He punched me to get out of the headlock. The RA walked in when I had him in a headlock. Both of us were clearly under the influence of alcohol. While my friend did not get in any trouble with the college, the same could not be said for me. While I take full responsibility for my actions I was given the charges of Alcohol and Physical Abuse by the college. I have been going to Alcohol and substance abuse counseling sessions over the past few months, in addition to anger management courses to correct the drinking problem I have and my behavior when I’m under the influence of Alcohol.
However, the college I’m attending is not challenging. I would like to transfer to a more challenging school, but Im worried that I will not get in due to my behavioral record. I previously have had no issues behaviorally before this incident.
Is it possible for me to transfer to more difficult school? Or should I wait another year before applying?
I was looking at SMU, Tulane, Babson, Wake Forest & Colorado College. I got into SMU before with a merit scholarship and did not apply to the other schools.
