Transfer chance at Georgetown, Emory, NYU Stern, Northwestern, Columbia etc...

I am a freshman right now with mostly 200 and 300 level honors courses at Miami University. very few introductory and 100 level courses and excellent prof. recommendations!!

HS GPA: 3.3
GPA at Miami University (OH): 3.7
ACT: 26

ec's:
about 100 volunteer hours

captain of hs varsity football team

accounting team in high school, i placed in the top ten at the annual district wide competition

i've also had many jobs.

Accounting Association in college

Miami Business Enterprises in college

my first semester of college i took 20 credit hours, which is the max allowed at Miami and am taking 18 my second semester

Schools im applying to:

Georgetown (McDonough School of Business)
American (Kogod Business)
Northwestern (Arts and Sciences)
Columbia (Columbia College)
Emory
NYU (Stern)
Northeastern (Business Admin.)

What do you think my chances are at these schools?
any other schools I should consider??

Thanks!!

Georgetown (McDonough School of Business)-big reach
American (Kogod Business)- match
Northwestern (Arts and Sciences)-reach
Columbia (Columbia College)- HUGE reach
Emory- slight reach
NYU (Stern)- big reach
Northeastern (Business Admin.)-lock

If you’re that desperate to transfer you might want to look at more “realistic” schools, otherwise stick it out another year at Miami and make yourself a more viable applicant. My knowledge on good business programs that have a “decent” transfer rate is pretty limited, so you might want to keep on fishing around the cc forum.

thanks Orson

Did you take the SAT?

nope…only the ACT

I also wish to transfer to Stern. Does anyone know the transfer rate? Thanks very much!

I believe the transfer rate for this year’s class was around 2%.

anybody else?? please

emory accepts 36% of transfers or around there, i think that a 3.7 from UM is pretty decent.

However, I have no knowledge of admissions but wish you the best my friend.

For NYU it was 2%. I confirm that. But you can always apply. The most you can get is a rejection letter.

^the least he can get is a rejection letter.

the most he can get is an acceptance letter. glass half full :D

haha thanks Castiel

no problem I got your back

Does anyone know if it’s easier to transfer into Emory as a Junior rather than a Sophomore? By my Junior year I should have a 3.5 college GPA, will my high school ACT scores even matter by then?

Thanks

if you apply for junior transfer, your hs record doesn’t matter as much. however, a 3.5 is still low for some schools on your list, especially stern, columbia(the minimum gpa is 3.5), and northwestern. i think emory is possible. try looking into a relevant internship, it would definitely help for stern and emory.

Would it be easier to transfer to Emory with a lower GPA from Duke or with a higher GPA from UT-Austin (McCombs)?

who in his right mind would transfer from duke to emory???

Hey! I’m a senior whose getting ready for college. Can you guys evaluate me and tell me your opinions on whether you think i can get into Stern or not? I’m debating over whether I should be doing Early Decision or not… would my chances be higher if I did?

Cumulative GPA: 3.45 (unweighted)
I take the IB diploma program, so I’m pretty sure my GPA would get weighted depending on the schools. I know my GPA isn’t the best, and this is my GPA so far from Junior year. If I go early, then this is what they would be seeing. If I apply normally, my GPA this semester I know would be higher, but then again the acceptance rate would go down if I apply with everyone else… right?

My GPA for Junior Year was 3.57 and 3.625

SAT scores

SAT I
Math - 750
Critical Reading - 700
Writing - 800
Total: 2250
(Best sittings combined)

SAT II
American History - 760
Math IIC - 710

Are my chances okay? Do you think I will be able to get in? I’m hoping my admission essay, other activities and SAT scores make up for my GPA. I also attend an international school in Japan. Thanks for the help!
