My son just transferred in this year as a sophomore. My advice to you is to CAREFULLY review ND’s Transfer information on their website. If you take the right courses and do very well (>3.6 would be good), you have a decent shot of acceptance for next Fall (they do not take January freshmen admittees).

Best of Luck!!

Myoneandonly-How was the transition for your son as a transfer student?

Well, it’s only been about 6 weeks so far, but he seems to be adjusting well. He’s off-campus until next semester (housing was tight this year) but even with that, he seems to be meeting lots of people and joining various clubs. The Transfer Orientation that both the students and parents attended in mid-August (right before drop-off) was very well organized and informative, and made the transfer kids feel like they were right at home.

I agree with myoneandolonly, the courses you take are extremely important. IN fact, it is impossible to chance you without knowing if you are in the right classes. I know an applicant who had a 4.0 but didn’t listen about the classes…he was rejected. The correct classes are critical!

I checked the ND website today to see which courses transfer, and it just so happens that the one course from my college that will not transfer is the survey of math class that I currently am taking. I can’t just drop the class, as it it too late! What should I do?

surfwake: I strongly suggest you contact the admissions office. They are extremely helpful to transfer applicants and will tell you exactly what to do. Also you will be on their radar screen when you do submit your application. Notre Dame really is different from other schools in the transfer admissions process. They want to hear from you early on. Follow their instructions exactly.
I will also second the compliments to the transfer orientation staff. I thought they did an exceptional job making the transfers feel right at home. The President of the University is a former transfer student, by the way.

Do you have any Math AP scores high enough that would be the transfer equivalent of one of the required Math courses? That could suffice in lieu of the current Math class you’re taking – then, next semester, be sure to take another one of ND’s required courses as stated on the website.

By the way, you should follow the sage advice of Irish68178 — he is a wealth of knowledge regarding the transfer process at ND and helped us tremendously!!
