transfer chance, esp cornell and columbia

Hi, I'm a freshman seeking transfer possibility. I'm at New York University right now. I want to transfer so as to meet more challenging academic environment.

Profile:
SAT I 1340 (800Math, 540 Verbal) (do i have to retake it?)
SAT II - Math IIC 800/Phy 800/Chem 780/Bio E 720/Writing 640
AP - Microecon 5/Macroecon 4/Cal BC 4/Chem 5/Phy C Mech 5

GPA now: 4.0 (18 credits)

ECs: Association of Computing Machinery Greater New York Region Programming Contest 2004 Champion team member, beating teams from Columbia, Cornell and Yale in the same region, represents US to go for World Finals
math clubs, computer clubs in HS

Planned schools to apply:
Cornell
Columbia (waitlisted when i apply as freshamn>< )
Yale
MIT
U Chicago (wiatlisted too >< )
U Penn
CMU

I want to study math and comp sci as my major, do you ppl hv suggestions of what other schools should I apply to?

Thank you very much in advance!!!

The fact that ur GPA is a 4.0, I think your SAT has minimal meaning.

So you mean my GPA is good enough to cover up my poor verbal score?

btw, what are my chances?

I would retake the SAT. Anothe 100 points would make you stand out a lot more.

the thing is this, most schools like Cornell dont require SATs. The purpose of SATs from HS is so that they can ESTIMATE how we'll u'll do in college. And now that you are in college, they will look at your college GPA as an indicate instead of the SAT. Makes sense?

yea, it makes sense
but ... what are my chances then?

you have great stats! if you apply to mit, you wouldn't have to worry about sat I. they only ask for your sat 2 scores (math 2c, another science test and writing/history). with grades and ec's like yours, i'd apply to mit if i were you.

Don't entirely count on what timantha_turner said about transfering to mit. Fact is transfering to mit is almost impossible, if i remember correctly, their acceptance rate for 2004 transfer is less than 1%.
I'm not stopping you from applying, mit is my dream school too, but just know the odds.

I'm applying to cornell this year as well.

yea, i know MIT is not possible (they only admit 5 ppl...)
that's why i'm asking for schools like cornell/columbia/penn/chicago

Not to discourage you, most kids who transfer to MIT either win intel or are intel finalists.
I have similar stats (but with a lower GPA), and I have also won national distinction much like you have.

Anyway, regarding this statement: "The fact that ur GPA is a 4.0, I think your SAT has minimal meaning.", I sure hope it is true. However, I think, given that we are freshmen, that the admissions officers will put some weight on our SAT scores.

All and all, if what you say is true, I think you are already in CMU and Cornell.

Anyway.. chances?

You mean I can get in Cornell due to my APs and ECs? I really hope that can be true.

So where are you going?

In general, Cornell is typically very chillax with the transfer process. I think based on your school and grades; you have a fair shot.

I am applying to:
Harvard, Penn - Wharton (Top 2)
Cornell, NYU - Stern, Yale, Northwestern, Chicago, and Michigan.

Then you can also enter Cornell!
Of course, you should aim for H and P.

I'm planning to take SAT and ACT in Jan and Feb. Are you going to do that? As I could see most people got in to Ivys are those 1400s and 1500s.

That's for regular admissions. I suppose it can't hurt.

So what are they looking at now? GPA, ECs and working experience?

seems logical.
