Can you bring your GPA up to a 3.2 after Fall? You seem pretty close to it.

@LAforlife unfortunately I won’t be able to, the classes im taking in fall is going to be difficult while maintaining my job. I know my limits and if anything it might fluctuate down to a 3.15-6. Tag seems so close yet so far away =</p>

You sure? How many classes are you taking and what grades so you expect in them? Also, can’t you take this semester off? it’s the last one that factors into your GPA.

for fall im taking Calc 2(hopefully a B maybe B+), Physics 4b (hardest one yet since im terrible at physics, C maybe B-), CompSci Class Java (A for sure). My school is a quarter base and I always take 3 classes. Im not sure what you mean by taking a semester though

I think he meant taking some time off work.

I have similar stats, and I’m also applying to Irvine and Long Beach. However your EC’s are waaay better. I could be wrong, but if you have yet to take Calculus 2, you probably won’t be too competitive. We have to take 3 semesters of calculus, linear algebra, and discrete math. Hopefully you get in somewhere, though.

If you can get 2 B’s and 1 A, your GPA should come up to a 3.2. Regardless what you think might happen, you should apply to TAG to UCSB if you are eligible beyond the GPA requirement. Because if you do get to a 3.2 and apply for TAG at UCSB (and meet all other requirements), you will be guaranteed admission to the school. If you don’t get to a 3.2, you won’t have TAG (guaranteed admission), but you obviously won’t lose anything by trying to TAG (unless you are planning on TAG-ing to a different school that only requires a 3.0) .

And mermaker is right, I meant taking time off work as this is the last quarter that UCs will see before they make a decision.

Wait how could he TAG? Doesn’t he need a 3.2 when he applies for it? Or is it possible to apply for a TAG after the fall semester/meet the requirements?

I only ask because I’m in a similar situation…26 credits and a 3.18 GPA so it would be game changing if I found out I could some how get a TAG!

26 credits? Are you applying this fall?

@scoobyparple

UCSB evaluates you after Fall. So only if your GPA is a 3.2+ after Fall can you TAG. That’s not the case for most UCs. However, I believe TAG requires you to have 30 semester units when you apply.

I appreciate the feedback guys, bummer I can’t get a tag then =/… and yeah I’m applying for next fall with 26 credits…I’m looking to be an econ/business major and honestly I’m covering almost all the prereqs this year and really only have really general classes (ie english, computer science, oceanography,nutrition,history,etc.) to fufill IGTEC reqs and get an idea of what I would like to do. So far I have only the introductory business class done (got an A =) ).

My question is will I get into significantly better schools if I wait a year and have all my prereqs fufilled?(assuming my gpa doesn’t change)

This semester I’m taking: Calc 1, Acounting 1, Macroeconomics, English, and History

Next semester: Bus statics, Spanish, Microeconomics, Acounting 2, and some sort of elective to fufill reqs.

So really almost entirely prereqs this year.

^It really depends on how high your GPA would be. Have any idea?
