transfer chance?

how difficult is it to transfer into USC after 1 year at a different university?
when you submit an application as a transfer to USC, does the admission staff look at your HIGH SCHOOL records, or do they look at how well you performed academically During your first year at the different university?

if any one knows any information on this topic, please share!

want to transer either ucla or usc (music or buisness major)?
im in one of the best transfer community colleges in California. i was wondering if how could i easily tranfer to a university-
first choice - usc 2nd- ucla.
im not worried about financially though and im not really a very very smart student but very hardworking and focused in college.

im thinking of business or music major. either the two would work for me. my parents wants me to take business (which is good) but i love to sing(no instruments though) Im very passionate about my singing. what is the best way to transfer and how hard and how could it be possibly easy to get to a university. is there a minimum gpa????

if i push through a music major, am i required to play instruments or can i focus on my craft in singing. i would love to take business but heard it takes so long.

pls help me out people.

i really want to transfer to a university.

and yah. just started this fall. how long do you think it will take me to transfer if i take full time classes???

and whats the easiest major that you can graduate fast in usc or ucla????

Do you have AP credits from high school? USC gives a maximum of 32 credits for AP exams with the scores they accept. What is your rush to graduate so soon? If cost is involved, I suggest you stay at your community college, study for top grades, and then try to transfer with the maximum allowed transferable credits. You might want to get a job in business to see if you really want to study that.

I think there's a huge thread about USC transfers over on the "college life" side of these forums. You're likely to get lots more info if you post on that thread, as it is populated by people who have just finished the transfer application process. Good luck!

USC doesn't look at your high school records unless you have over the minimum of 30 transferable units. This can be either from courses you took at your community college or 4-year university and AP tests. If you have below 30 units when you apply for transfer, then they primarily focus on your high school records. Depending on whether you did better in high school or college when you transfer should guide how you apply.

^ so USC DOES look at your high school stuff, unless you have over 30 transferable units? Just clarifying.

you'll probably get in. USC doesn't really look at your high school info, and most transfers get in. There are almost as many as there are fall freshmen.

I am wondering how USC has many spots open for transfer students since it is so competitive to get in as a freshman. I sense on this forum that the kids really want USC as freshmen.

Yes, StanEda224, USC will only look at your high school records for the admissions process if you have under 30 semester units, or 45 quarter units. If you have earned more than the said amount of units then they will focus on your college academic record.

-The transfer acceptance rate was 25% for Fall 2008. 21% for freshmen.
-30+units= high school transcript has less impact on the decision.
-Adcoms will look at your high school record regardless of your unit count. It's required that you send it in for verification of high school graduation purposes.
-The level of difficulty of being admitted is almost the same from freshmen to transfers. The only difference is that the transfer students don't have inflated GPA's like AP students in high school do.
-I would suggest you go over to the Transfer Forum, the USC thread is always one of the most active threads. Best to all of you. :)

From the USC profile:
Freshmen: 33,720 applicants, 2,650 enrolled
Transfers: 8,250 applicants, 1,250 enrolled

That's 32% - hardly most.

to grey_syntactics:
ya i agree but the word "enroll" means the actual number of students entering, right? in other words, there were a lot more acceptance letters sent out?

i guess what i am so nervous about is...can USC admissions make a good decision on accepting / denying transfer applicants off of ONE quarter's worth of grades?

I wasn't talking about admissions and retention rates. I was talking about the freshman-to-transfers ratio in the incoming class.

Of course not, that's why they ask for HS transcripts, HS ECs, SATs, and Spring grades.
