hey guys I want to attend a university for a year and then try to transfer to Stern at the end of first year (so i’ll be applying next fall).

I want to ask how hard is it to transfer into Stern from another school? Is there a percentage? and class requirements?

i’m debating between attending Boston U or CUNY Baruch in the city for my first and/or second year before trying to transfer to NYU Stern.

Which one should I go to? Does it matter?

Let’s say I choose BU (have to pay around 20k a year), and i get a 3.0

versus Baruch (free tuition) and i get a 3.5 GPA?

which one would Stern likely accept? Does the college’s name really matter?

Thanks a lot guys … lots of questions and sorry !

and what if i get 3.5 at both schools? which would be better for acceptance into Stern?

thx again

We won't really know much about stern...

Is this for real? Going to one school for a year with the sole purpose of transferring? If Stern is the end all for you, then take the CUNY offer, at least you won't have to pay tuition for a year worth of education.

If you're serious about going to Stern how about you go to either and get a 4.0.

Well, first, you should ask this in the NYU forum. Second, I understand that you're trying to relate possible gpa's in one school versus another and how that might change your chances but - and I'm being blunt - you'd better pick a school where you'll be happy for 4 years because that's likely where you'll be. Your risk/reward analysis needs foremost to consider the cost of the downside.

lergnom is ignoring the fact that you are looking for which school will get you to Stern. Happiness has nothing to do with it.

If i can give you any advice it is this. Once you are at a school like BU, NYU is going to want a very very solid reason why you want to transfer. I'm not saying it won't happen, but it will be very difficult. The Admins at NYU will see right through your application...and there is a good chance with a 3.0 at BU, or a 3.5 at SUNY you will be stuck at your original school.

I had this thought process for UCLA. Fortunately- I was accepted to BU, so I wasn't stuck at my original school.

If you really want to get into Stern, go to CC and get a 4.0, or go to SUNY and apply after a 4.0, even apply to their General Studies program...If Stern is the end for you...do everything you can to get all A's/
