Hey everybody. I am currently in my second year at a good LAC. I am debating if I should transfer next year. I would like to go to a university that has more emphasis on business (econ/math major as of right now). I am just interested in seeing if I have a chance at Georgetown or Columbia...

STATS:
College GPA: 3.76 ish
College ECs: Habitat for Humanity, Big Brother Program, Investment Club, Supplemental Instructor for calculus I (more complex teaching assistant), Math tutor
Recs: I have two stellar profs here willing to write them
Essays: Should be fine

High School GPA: 3.9 (ranked 12/182)
SAT: 1780... (I know its low)
High School ECs: Marching/Concert/Jazz Band, Section leader, Honor Society, American Red Cross

Work Experience: Various summer jobs but last year I was able to intern for a money management firm (compliance department at Babson Capital)

Any advice would be great...

aside from your SAT which won carry too much weight since you are a soph. I'd say you have a good shot. I got into GT last year as a transfer with a 4.0 at the end of frosh year but i had a 3.0 hs gpa. 27 act - sports etc.. i was a poli sci student too.... so i think you have a decent shot

im going to disagree with the above post

you would certainly be a competitive applicant if youre sat's were about 500 points higher...not to say you would get in, but you would have a decent shot...while sat's do not carry the weight they would for a freshman app., they still matter and will likely prevent you from being a competitive app. to columbia where everybody has at least your gpa...

in addition, if you are applying to columbia you really need to make your ec's stand out...you kind of have the standard list of ec's which show an ambiguous level of involvement in your community (can't tell one way or the other) and a lack of something exceptional to make you stand out (leadership positions, awards, etc.)

also, what school are you at now?

gl

I second the above post.
