Hi, I'm wondering what chances I have in applying for Biology to Norte Dame.
Ethnicity: Asian
Overall college GPA: 3.75 (including up to winter quarter of 09) Definite upwards trend, 3.33 in 07 fall, 3.67 in 08 wint, 3.78 08 spr, 4.0 08 sum, 4.0 08 fall, 4.0 09 wint.
Transferable Course GPA: 3.92 (excluding a computer societies class: C, and soil science/L: B+/B)
Overall units: 74 quarter units so far: 49 semester units, will be slightly over 60 after spring and summer quarters.
09 fall standing: Junior
From: California Polytechnic University of Pomona
High School Statistics: (very bad)
From 2.0 gpa in freshman/sophmore year to 3.4 in my senior year
Mean GPA: 2.75
SAT: Math: 720, English: 440, Writing: 580, overall: 1740/2400
SAT II: Math: 680, Korean: 740
So, what do you think? Yes my high school gpa is pretty depressing, but I was too high for school...

being a junior i would say you have a chance. But dont get your hopes up too much... ND can be very strange with how they make the selection.

Yeah, I have couple safeties in mind...I guess my current institution in itself is a "safety". Hope the highschool grades don't screw me over...>_<
thanks.

It depends on the courses you have taken and how well they match with what the college of science looks for. Is there another major you are interested in by chance? The only reason I ask is because the college of science STRONGLY prefers sophomore transfers so most of their science classes are taken at ND. If you can apply with a different primary major you may increase your chances. Then again, that was how it was about 5 years ago, so it may have changed.

The best thing you can do is talk with a transfer admissions advisor at ND. They can tell you if you have the right classes and what you can do to increase your chances. Good luck!

No, there isnt any other major I'm interested in...

However, I've taken a lot of general education requirement courses required for california public universities this includes a bunch of lower division courses:
Intro to Sociology: B+
US history: B
Mind, Brain, and Behavior: A
Human Sexuality: A
Freshman English I: A
Music Appreciation: A
History of Middle periods: A
Economics: A
Statistics: A
Computers and Society: C (non transferable I think--USC/UC's don't accept it)
Soil Science/L: B+/B (Doesn't count toward my major or GE, so I don't know...)
Core Science Courses: (only intro courses have been taken, I avoided to take them early planning to transfer; I know upper division science courses like organ chem, or molecular is better off taken at the transferred institution.)
Physics 1/L Trig based (won't count for major, but for credit): A/A
Physics 2/L Trig based (won't count for major, but for credit): A/A
Physics 3/L Trig based (won't count for major, but for credit): A/A
Chemistry 1/L: A/A-
Chemistry 2/L: A/A
Biology 1/L: A/A
Biology 2/L: A/A

the only big issue i see here is the CoS high recommends, if not requires, Calc 1&2. I applied last year and was a biochem minor but had only calc 1 completed bc that was all which was required of my school - i found this out late in 2nd semester so i switched to a different major on my application. I didn't get in....... but i still know that you need the Calc and if those are the classes you have taken you might face some issues.

Agreed, I'm gonna take two semesters of calculus this summer

So does anyone know how not meeting my foreign language requirement and applying as a junior will affect me?

I think that should be okay (the foreign language) you can take that at ND easily (or admissions may ask you to take it the summer before). Regardless, one class won't sink you.

sweet. I am at UMich after transferring from Western Michigan - i really want to go to nd... but if i get in idk if i will with the cost. i just want to make sure something like that wouldn't sink me bc i am holding a 3.6-3.9 right now
