Transfer Chances at Top Schools

I am interested in transferring to a higher caliber school than where I am now. I am looking at UVA, UPenn, Georgetown, UNC, William and Mary, and Haverford. All the schools except Haverford I would be applying for the business school. I was wondering what my chances are with my current stats. I have spent one semester at a top branch campus of Penn State and one whole year at the Main Campus.
GPA:3.88
HS GPA:97% Top 5% of HS Class
SAT: 1330 or 1980
College extracurriculars: Student Government, Business organizations, Phi Eta Sigma Freshman Honor Society, Varsity Baseball (branch campus)
HS ECs: 2 varsity sports, Student Council President, National Honor Society, etc.

I would be applying out of state for UNC, William and Mary, and UVA if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance!

unc, uva - good shot
upenn - crapshoot. probably not happening, but it doesn’t hurt to apply
georgetown - shot
others - no idea

The Wharton School is very competitive for transfers, what is your major GPA?

Your gpa is going to be diluted since you spent a year off main campus. It may be a top branch, but it is still a branch, and the kids you were in class with probably had SAT scores 400+ points lower then yours. What is your gpa breakdown between the two years? Anyway here are my thoughts:

UNC - very high reach (nearly impossible for everyone)
UPenn - high reach
Georgetown - mid/high reach
UVA - high reach (hard for everyone)
W&M - low reach
Haverford - unsure

Smeal is a good school so I am not exactly sure why you are trying to transfer out; however, if you are dead set on leaving, I would suggest a school like Fordham, Villanova, or maybe even NYU that would give you a better shot at getting in.

When you guys get a minute please let me know what you think:

zakthemac-UNC’s website says the average GPA for junior transfers is 3.15 and SAT is 1130 so I’m not sure why you said it is nearly impossible.

Anyway, my major GPA is about a 3.85. For the time at the branch campus my GPA is around 3.9 and for classes at main campus is around 3.83.

Your main campus gpa is more important…you have a good shot at UVA, William and Mary and may be Georgetown but given your major I think you should focus towards UVA

I have to disagree with zak

You should be a match with UNC and William and Mary. UVA is only a reach because it’s difficult to transfer into McIntire. It’s the same story with UPenn, which is difficult for everyone. I wouldn’t discourage you from applying to any of those schools. You have a stellar HS record and college record from what you have put up here.

Thanks for all the responses so far. So gathering from all of you Penn is most likely a no. UNC is probably a yes and maybe William and Mary too. UVA and Georgetown are probably reaches, but there is a shot for both of them and nobody seems to be sure about Haverford. Am I correct?
