I am a junior who would like to transfer to University of Texas Austin, so that I can pursue a degree that is not offered at my current school. I will have no problems getting letters of recommendation and I have been involved in extracurriculars. However, my GPA is only a 3.0. I know that Rice has a 3.2 GPA requirement for transfer students, and I hope to have at least a 3.2 GPA by the time I transfer next year. What are my chances of being admitted as a transfer student at UT-Austin's College of Liberal Arts with either a 3.2 or 3.0?

Schools rarely allow transfers at the senior year level unless your family just moved or unless you wouldn't be able to afford to finish otherwise. A 3.0 or 3.2 GPA is unlikely to sway UT-Austin to change their rules. So unless you are financially restrained, or your family is moving to Austin, I think you will have a tough time of it. But go ahead and apply. After all, you have nothing to lose.

Good luck.
